Dr. Stenson Presents: Sanitarium #1

Here is a really small press gem that came out this week that has a movie tie in (and a Batman tie in), Dr Stenson Presents: Sanitarium #1.

I love horror, and I love small press books, so this one has it all for me. In addition, Sanitarium was a small film that was released in 2013 that this book adapts in comic form.
There are only a few copies of Sanitarium #1 on eBay for sale.

The movie itself has some pretty big name stars in it. Lou Diamond Phillips, Robert Englund, and Malcolm McDowell all are in the movie. Also, there is a segment where a little boy is being chased by some demonic hobo creature. The boy, Steven, who also appears in the comic, is played by David Mazouz, who will be playing Bruce Wayne in the Gotham TV show. Sanitarium the Movie on DVD can be purchased from Hastings through their eBay site for $1.98 used.

      1. I liked it but lost interest after around issue 7 or 8. I just remember the hype around it and it seemed to have fallen flat.

      2. I picked up almost the complete lot of Mind The Gap when TFAW had a sale around the holidays for about $1.00 each. I still need just a few early issues, once I get them I was going to read them. But was wondering that I haven’t seen any new issues lately..
On another note, I found American Vampire at a Half Price books for #2 – #28.. paid $15 bucks for them all. A few were Fine condition, some others are VF, the rest low NM. Not a bad deal to read that series for cheap (since I’ve been picking up Second Cycle ) but wanted to read the first volume before being lost. I just bought the Digital Version of #1 for 99 cents instead of paying $15 or more that they’re going for on eBay.. 🙂
I never picked up Morning Glories… skimmed a few, figured wasn’t my type of comic.
Anyone know what happened to Black Acre? I can’t find any information on why they just suddenly stopped after #11. I was enjoying that book.. last issue came out last fall..

      3. Unfortunately I think Blackacre was canceled. I could be wrong however.
I have full run also. Was a nice low print no extra covers/variant book. But that showed how it was always going to be on the fence.

      4. Ughh.. This is the downside to Independent Comics, they can be canceled at anytime. I really hate story lines not properly ended…

      5. after digging further i found this

@jrfowler12 Hi! We’re on hiatus at the moment. We’ll let everyone know when we have news. Thx for checking in.

  1. Guys, I actually picked up all 4 volumes of Morning Glories at my local library. Yes! The blasphemy! I highly recommend reading it in its entirety. Wonderful. That comic has to be read as a whole, not in monthly comic format, because it’s almost like the show ‘LOST’ , if you aren’t engrossed in it, then you fall off easily because you forget what happened last time/issue.
Give it a try in volume format, trust me you’ll like it. I do have an MG#1, and still holding on….I think has all the earmarks for a hit television series.

      1. Yeah, doesn’t make sense something that people like getting canceled. Reminds me of NBC canceling shows before they even get a chance to pick up viewers, good shows too. I hate incomplete stories, they better not of canceled Nowhere Men!

  2. Day Men is another book plagued by delays. Its such a good story too, and the art by Stelfreeze is amazing.
