V-Wars heading to TV confirmed

So, normally I write a lot of the posts the night before and and schedule them to hit around prime time. Yesterday, I ran a piece that there was some kind of media deal being rumbled about by retailers that attended Diamond Comics Retailers Summit. I guessed movie deal but was not too far off the mark. Bleeding Cool confirmed it tonight.
Kind of, V-Wars is being adapted, but as a TV show. Bleeding Cool talked about its possibility of making it to air and said:

Jonathan Maberry’s V-Wars is the latest comic book potentially heading for a small screen near you, and this one may have a better shot than others because it’s being developed as a straight-to-series project.
V-Wars is set after a cataclysmic event unleashes the vampire virus loose among humankind, only it affects each person differently depending on their DNA, resulting in all sorts of different kind of vampires.

So as I wrote last night, and posted today:
Might be time to quietly back up and grab a copy or two. There were two “regular” versions of the first issue of the comic:
V-Wars Regular Cover
V-Wars Subscription Variant
Copies of V-Wars #1 are going for below cover on eBay.
There were several Variants:
V-Wars #1 Retailer Incentive Cover
V-Wars #1 1:100 Human retailer Incentive
V-Wars #1 WonderCon Variant
There is also a #0 Issue from Free Comic Book Day:
V-Wars #0 FCBD

  1. Yea..you;re looking at auctions finishing around $50 now. What is everyone thoughts on the variant vs regular covers? Seems to be more variants out there.

  2. The FCBD book was #0. It wasn’t a preview of #1 bit a prelude, a totally different story than #1.

  3. i though the first edition of the Strain HC Novel would do better. White Trash is correct there was a novel released by IDW. Maybe if it was rare value would increase but there seems to be a ton out there.

  4. The comic also has gotten horrible reviews. Hopefully the show is better… it’s pretty bad when ComicBookResource’s review ends with.. “”V-Wars” #1 is a cool enough idea, but it falls drastically short in its execution. The idea alone might be enough to push readers into giving the second issue a try, but the words and pictures won’t.”

      1. I actually haven’t read it yet myself but I did skim through it.. I had no desire to pick up to read. I’ll stick to American Vampire (excellent writing by Snyder) and The Strain for my vampire comics..

  5. A question about another comic to tv (sorry off topic) it looks like the Izombie is saturated on eBay, but still getting plenty of bids. I’m still trying to figure out the market before I jump in with selling some. My thought about this is that there is plenty of Izombies out there and they are still getting pretty aggressive bidding. It feels to me like it is still climbing and not time to sell. How do you all know when to hold and when to sell.
I love this site. Thanks for your hard work.

    1. Predicting the market is like trying to predict the end of the world, 100% of the time you’re gonna be wrong. There’s no perfect time if you ask me, some just get lucky while others don’t. If you see everyone selling and they’re making decent profit, then sell while it’s hot cause tomorrow the market could do a complete 180 degree turn with a simple news update and then no one wants them.
This is just my opinion though. I use to collect coins heavily and I’d laugh at the guys who would always try to predict the price of gold or silver, they were always wrong and if they were right, it was just pure luck in guessing.

      1. I ordered one recently. apmex exclusive limited to 5000 coins.
Kinda spendy as i only usually buy bullion as close to spot as i can get.
        But its spider man!!!!!

        1. My family owns a store that gets a lot of change come across the counter. I have been pulling silver out of the registers for 15 years. I sold a lot while prices were at highs three years ago it so.

      2. Geez, 5 times the current price of silver too.. I’d actually consider buying one if they were $30, $19 for the 1 oz of silver coin and spend $10 for the cool looking Spidey Tin container it comes in.. 😉

      3. Anthony. Very nice, junk silver is awesome and hard to find this day of age.
Drew: well it is a proof struck and limited edition and comes with a tin. but other than that i feel you. that is why i stick to stuff that is only a dollar or two above spot.

    2. As Drew said it is impossible to say when is the right time to sell. I sold a ton of Strain #1’s when it was a quick $20 (seriously like 20-25 copies). I should have held, but my cost was .80 cents each, that is a huge profit margin. You will always do one of two things, miss out on top dollar and lose a few bucks profit or sell two soon and leave some money on the table. You have to base your overall profit on what you are willing to accept. i never like to be left holding the bag, so i always go for the quick profit.
What my overall strategy is, is to buy copies, sell enough to get back what i put out on them, and then slowly let more out on the market if it is rising.
      Hope that helps.

    3. Honestly, I’d say if you got your copies for retail price, flip for profit now before the show debuts. If the show ends up sucking, you might see a big drop in demand and price, then your stuck with them without any profit. If you have multiple copies, sell a few now, hold the rest until after the show debuts to see if there is increased demand if it turns out to be popular, if it ends bombing out, then you likely made more than your money spent on the first round of sales. But predicting either is impossible. Good luck either way..

  6. I only had 1 copy of strain #1 I got for $15 when the show first announced. When the trailers started popping up, I sold it for $40. I wish now I would’ve held onto it but I wanted the quick cash at the time. You just have to use your best judgment on when to sell.
Also, I just went to hastings and picked up v wars 1 and ghosted 9 for a $1 each. Not sure why they were cheap but they were.

  7. I’ve read issue 1 and thought it was rather good. It’s very political, but that doesn’t mean it’s bad. Give it a shot. I’m about to read issue 2 and will let you know if it gets better or worse.
As for flipping, I would hang on to your copies. $15-$20 is a small amount to gamble with. so oh well if the price drops. I had a friend who had two Walking Dead #1s that seemed to level out at $50 for quit a while so he sold them. Let’s just say he’s still kicking himself for that one.

    1. Has anyone heard anything about The Bunker tv show? Wondering if this will ever transpire.

  8. What are all your thoughts on the V-Wars #2 Eastman variant? Worth picking up a few?
Matt Murdock- I’m loving The Bunker and just waiting for an announcement myself!

  9. So I stopped by a local shop today during lunch and low and behold, they had the V-Wars Retailer Incentives both Cover A and B for retail.. guess who’s gonna be flipping some comics? This guy.. 🙂

    1. Oh wow, I just checked and these two RI covers were being sold by Midtown at $85 for Cover A and $170 for Cover B, Cover A being a 1:100 and Cover B at 1:200..

      1. Yeah, went back and picked up the remaining 3 as well that they had, two Cover A and 1 Cover B. These had some slight bends on the covers but should still maintain a NM status according to most.
