Speculating Outcast #1

Bleeding Cool covered speculation on Outcast #1 (a day after we talked about it) and the prices that were being realized.
When we mentioned the prices Outcast #1 was going for, people seemed doubtful, especially considering how many copies were printed. But the fact stands, the day of and day after Outcast #1 was published, it jumped in price.
Bleeding Cool reported:

copies have now sold for up to $15. Or ten for $100

and

A 9.8 CGC slabbed copy of WALKING DEAD #127 with the Outcast preview in the back has sold for $222.50.

Seems that prices are coming down a little now, but still, the book sold out and was a hot. People have reported having trouble finding copies of Outcast #1 in their local stores, online retailers sold out, and with a TV deal looming, it was a hit.

  1. Why are people shocked. Walking Dead TV show has millions of fans. If some of those are also now watching comic book men and are into buying they will for sure have gotten or will want outcast. I foresee this book getting 100$+ per book raw, In 1+ years time. It can have a slow trend up, who knows what the ultimate price can be 5-10 years down the road. Who knows what the fiat will be or will we be bidding comics in bitcoins.
Because one thing is clear about the so called ‘print run’ and people thinking it is “big”. If related to stocks then it would be a shares outstanding and this shares outstanding of 100k if this is end number (actually number doesn’t matter). It can be accumulated. Making something beyond the shares outstanding or print run. Creating something called a float. or even deeper an active float. This is simply a term that is defined as the number of active available ‘shares’ or in this case comic books that are on the market willing and able to sell at any given time. This number goes up and down through time and can be squeezed to an extremely low amount of free available shares/comics. Meaning that the price can exhibit extreme volatility. This process in the stock world of tightening the free trading float is done buy buying and holding shares in mass. In the comic book world it is done by true collectors taking the copy(s) into their collection with the plan to not sell. A fan, A reader, Anyone who will keep it locked up and wont sell for the current going price. This number through time if like the walking dead will only get squeezes as people demand the first issue.
This book will take time for it to squeeze the float and accumulate through books of course, and only time will tell if and how that will play out. But simple fact is it does play out every day and this might develop a big following beyond the 100k printed, meaning that if the fanbase grows to 101k+ well then you can imagine what will happen.

Makes me wonder about my preview book we talked about a few threads ago with the outcast preview from image expo 2014, that predates TWD #127 .
I mean whats the difference between a preview in a walking dead or an image expo comic book…. Well I can think of one difference is one was before the other.
Well I guess only time will tell and sending one to CGC and throwing on ebay for outrageous numbers. Worst they can say is no. Heh

    1. “I Is for Image. A preview comic released at Image EXPO 2014 for Image releases in 2014. Features:
Starlight, The Fuse, Southern Bastards, Shutter, Low, Stray Bullets, and Outcast. ”
      Cover Date: Jan ’14
Pro: Earlier print date Con: Features Mutli Previews.
      Walking Dead #127
      Cover Date: May ’14

      1. Really wish I would have picked up a 127. Have to forget the print runs with Kirkman books. Had five of both outcast and 127 that I could have scooped, but decided to pass. Only picked up one outcast.

  3. So should I order 9.8 for 89 and see what happens because all the one I got were like twd 127 and asm 1 ripped spines on top amd bottom thanks

    1. If you can’t find your own to send into CGC then I would see it as a sound investment.
You can find it cheaper than 89$ midtown showing 67.49 but coming soon so you’d have to watch. tfaw had it for 79$ but they sold out.
Sure you can technically take a ‘loss’ as in you pay 90$ and maybe one day the avg is only going 50$. its small risk to the downside which is capped at only a certain amount (what you paid) while your upside is technically unlimited.
Again though if you can somehow find multi copies that look good it might be better to take the risk sending into CGC yourself. Who knows you could always get back a 9.9 or 10 also.

  4. I have seen only three copies in the wild and they were in crappy shape. Everyone should stock up on CGC 9.8’s

  5. I’ll wait for the trade paperback. Way to many copies. These books ain’t going to worth anything. Don’t waste your money my people.

  6. Went to 3 lcs’s and called another today. Only one shop has a stack of about 10 outcasts. Even the king, mile high comics, was sold out. I was told by the owner of the LCS that had copies that a person working for mile high came by to purchase them from his store. Crazy!
