Here is an interesting one from Bleeding Cool.
Looks like the first appearance of the new (possibly) female Thor has come out recently.
Avengers #30 featured a future story where a female Thor is prominently featured. She is very similar in appearance to the female Thor that has been shown in preview art. So this could be the first appearance of female Thor.
From Bleeding Cool:
So, we know that Thor is being recreated as a woman, wielding the hammer Mjolnir. And that whatever there was of the original Thor, no longer worthy to wield the hammer, also survives.
Because in Avengers #30 by Jonathan Hickman and O, set 48 years in the future gave us this suddenly-familiar looking Thor.
Though do note, she no longer has the hammer…
But if you are looking for a first appearance? Here you go.
*cough*
Larry pick of the week, months ago…
*cough*
You heard it first here on comicsheatingup.net.
*cough*
OK, I picked it for old man Hawkeye.
*cough*
But still…I rule…
🙂
You are why I picked that comic up. At the time, I had no idea what was so great about that book, a new female Star Brand or something . Trust in Larry’s Pick of the Week.
I remember. But it takes the other guys a while to point out you are right.
What If #10: What if Jane Foster Found Thor’s Hammer (Aug. 1978) Is the first instance of a female Thor.
Yes, A female Thor also appeared in Earth X. Neither are canonical. We are looking for the one in the 616, the one that will replace Thor.
Not saying the What If may not be important, just when looking for the female that will be called Thor.
I am not sure that Avengers #30 is canonical. The fact that she does not wield the hammer is very telling, since it is the hammer that makes Thor.
She has the axe that Thor is going to wield once he loses the hammer.
Her appearance is 48 years in the future..
so Thor obviously gets the hammer back at some point.
*popsicle headache*
But you assume and even may be correct that it is “her” first appearance, but if she has already been introduced in another issue, then you are incorrect. If it is a brand new character then you may be correct, but if it is not, then you are wrong…meat popsicle anyone. Still one can argue that the first appearance of “her” is not until she is seen wielding the actual hammer.
True. “Meat Popsicle” lol

What about Thor Girl isn’t she the first FEMALE Thor
There have been several different female Thors. But this character in particular is what we were talking about.
I’m going to guess that the Fiona Staples cover coming out for Thor by Jason Aaron and Russell Dauterman is going to be quite hot. Looks awesome.
By the way I dig you site, and read it daily.
Thank you I appreciate you and every one who checks out the site. It is a labor of love.

In Norse mythology, Thor was still Thor even without the hammer. However Marvel interpretation may be different. In the 1960s, Thor changes to Donald Blake without the hammer. Unlike Captain Marvel, Thor sales tend to be decent, so any replacement may be temporary.
Yes Thor is still Thor without the hammer, but the hammer is what gives extra powers. When Thor transformed into Donald Blake the hammer transformed into a cane.
He or she who has the powers in the hammer shall be called Thor. Wizard special edition Marvel Comics Earth X printed in 97 has a Alex Ross art issue which shows a drawing of Thor Goddess of Thunder this I believe is the first appearance of female Thor
Of a female thor not this one.
VINDICATED!!! Given the news Thor is really Jane Foster, I feel great!! Larry, have a popsicle on me!!
