I mentioned yesterday that SCY FY was working to bring Krypton to TV. Topher provided some spec to go along with it.
The book in question is World of Krypton #3 from 1987. This issue features the first appearance of Superman’s grand father Van-el
There was also a 1970’s series entitled World of Krypton the series could pull from. (This is all premature speculation at this point).
The Full 1980’s series, including the first appearance of Van-el, can be purchased cheaply from Mycomicshop for less than $3 an issue.

Van-L does first appear in World of Krypton #1, but Superman’s grandfather, Seyg-El (get it?), father of Jor-El first appears in World of Krypton #3. Best bet: pick-up all three limited series (1979, 1987, 2009), while they’re still cheap.

I have done some extensive research on this. It is possible that Lara’s father could be the focal point of the show I have yet to find any comic appearances of her father.
Lara is given the last name Lor-Van (from her father’s name) in Superman 233 (1971). Lor-Van finally appears in an “imaginary story” in Superman Family 192 (1978), but I can’t confirm that this is his first appearance.

OK so you are correct, 192 features both Lor-Van and Jor-El 1 both grandfathers! I have found no other issue that shows Lor-Van. It’s a wild spec but I am now having trouble seeing the show using the name Seyg-El.
I cant see them using Seyg-El either without paying a hefty royalty check.
Except that show runner, Dave Goyer, who may have some say, revisited Seyg-El in his run on Starman with James Robinson: Starman 51 (1999); so it’s certainly on his radar. Another cheap investment, but yes, we know the Siegel family is litigious. If Goyer chooses to rename the character, will Seyg-El appearances be less desirable?

I’m a big fan of “The Fabulous World of Krypton” back-up stories in Superman (1971-1982), snappy little six pagers by a who’s-who of DC’s greatest artists like Dave Cockrum, Murphy Anderson, Gil Kane and Mike Kaluta. A little pricier, but still affordable.
These are awesome tidbits. I am going to do a list of potentials.
