Weekend Open Forum

The Wednesday open forum is one of the most fun things for me. It opens conversations up and gets people really interacting. Wanted to expand it to the weekends too. Here is the first weekend open forum.
I have been away most of the weekend. I wanted to hear what your favorite book was this week. So let’s hear what your good reads were from this week’s or recent pickups. Feel free to talk about whatever as well.

    1. I haven’t looked into it in a few months, but last I knew they were looking for a new artist so that they can continue the series. Do some searches and see what you can find. You can also message the writer and see what they say. When this book came out, I made sure to get all variants and some CGC 9.8s. It would be cool to see something happen so that I can unload them.

  1. Even though this book was a few weeks ago, I have to give a shout out to The Empty. If issue 2 is as good if not better than issue 1, get yourself some copies!

    1. It wasn’t bad, not sure if I’m going to continue reading it or not. Seemed too predictable for me.

        1. Yeah, sort of same feelings here. It wasn’t terrible, just like no desire to keep reading. I’ll likely skim issue 2 before final decision.

  2. The Batman #39 Variant is a super Cool cover art, and over here in the UK is already selling at above $15, and proving tricky to get hold of one presently. Secured a Batman #39 Combo though, so hope that does turn out to be a future prized collectible rare one.
Really enjoyed Plunder #1. Interesting High Seas / experimentation creature feature premise. Felt like Death Ship (1980) meets Captain Phillips crossed with John Carpenter’s The Thing. Solid story & decent enough art, with lashings of gooey gore. On board for this six issue mini.
Enjoying Drifter more than I initially did after a confused first issue, but now definitely invested in the first story arc through to Issue #5 at least.

  3. NB: My bad, meant to say it is the Issue #40 Batman Combo pack that I have secured, not the #39 one !

  4. So is it just me or is it hard to find time to read all of these cool new comic books? I stopped reading batman back in issue 13 but still collect them also ASM. Last one I read of that was 700 and have all the new ASM just sittig there.. And last book I read recent was spread 5 and that was back when it came out. Really good book. Better then outkast. I need to find time to catch up on my readding lol
Any of you have the same problem?

    1. I make it a habit to set time aside to read and most of the time I read all of my weeks pickups before next Wednesday. Currently I’m only a little behind on a few Marvel titles but I did that on purpose to collect a few issues, then binge read them so there’s more than just 20 pages of story to intake.
I also don’t watch much TV, which helps. But lately it’s been hard to get anything done. Wife is working long hours so I’m stuck with kid duty before and after school, I’m pretty wiped by the kids go down for bed..

    2. I agree that it is hard to find time to read all the new comics that come out every week. It seems like there are so many new issues to collect, that you barely have time to read them after you buy them. I would say keep collecting and then lock yourself in your house for the weekend and do a binge read. Of course if you have kids then it’s a little tougher to find extra time.

    3. As a full time student I am so far behind on my comics. I’m at least 6 issues behind on many series. Of course my favorites (Walking Dead, Sex Criminals, Spider Man) I am caught up on. But I feel your pain.

    4. I am taking the winter to catch up, most of my titles are as far back as 2013. I sometimes think it’s better to wait a period of time and read a bunch of them right in a row, instead of reading numerous titles once a month. Trades are nice , but there’s just something about holding the comic in your hands.

      1. Is the advise to buy and hold the number 1’s until they pop with news of something big like movie or tv deal
        Or
Sell after you magically find time
Or hold – wait for the show or movie then sell?

    5. LOL. Rookies. I fell behind in my reading in 1992. I probably have in the neighborhood of 23 longs boxes full of comics I haven’t read (yet). And every week, I pick up more to add to those boxes. I get behind on series but keep collecting them (Green Lantern, Batman, Justice League, X-Men, etc) figuring it’s easier to get them now than to try and find them later. I’ve done pretty good lately keeping up with new series that have come out (Outcast, Tooth & Claw, Wytches, The Wicked + The Divine, etc). I figure I might get caught up when the kids leave home or I retire, if I don’t sell everything off before then.

      1. Haha.. well, I collect to read. If I stopped reading a series, then I stop buying it. That’s the deal I made the wife and myself, I must read everything I buy. Also, I’d hate to think I buy 50 issues of some series only to find out it sucked after issue #1. 😉

      2. Tell me about it! I buy with every intention to read because I like the character/writer/artist. Then creative teams change, but I keep going on the series but I don’t want to break the run. It’s a painful OCD behavior that I’m trying to break myself of.

      3. I buy to read for the most part, only problem is they all look good to me and I end up with more than I can keep up with.

  5. I assume with my silk 1:25 variant – I should sell now or should I get it cgc and hold?
Same question with the spider Gwen color variants?
Sell now or hold and maybe grade?
    Any advice on good strategy?

      1. Yup but if you have a bunch of them, my advice, sell one at a time. If you flood the market with them, could bring the price and demand down.
If you have one Silk 1:25, honestly, I’d say keep and hold onto it. I got two of them and I decided to keep and hold, I think the long term value is going to be nice than the quick flip.

  6. I really liked the Criminal one-shot. What I’m really looking forward to this Wednesday is Saga #26. I did find a bunch of Dreadstar issues in a 3 for $2 bin this week. Hopefully those will pay off down the line.
Next weekend here in Vegas there’s a store going out of business and there will be lots of long boxes with newer and older titles clearanced out. I plan to spend a good portion of my day (and money) there. Hopefully I find some big hitters.
I also organized my entire collection this week. Took hours upon hours! But now it’s a thing of beauty. Going through my stuff I stumbled upon some trades of Y the Last Man so I started reading that again. That Brian Vaughan is definitely on my list of top comic writers out there. He’s just flat out phenomenal. Anybody have issue #1 they want to trade or sell? Tony or Poyo I’m looking at you two…

      1. There’s a toy store in north Vegas that put has a sign out front. Toys, comics, collectibles, what have you… Cheyenne and Decatur I want to say. Little shop, I usually pass right by it. Passed by a couple times last week and saw the sign.

  7. Last one – I zombie – sell asap ( which is my guess before the show because show preview looks bad). Or hold till show starts?
I’m still sitting on strain issues also?
    HELP
    LOL
As for reading these – I can only read the trades of the walking dead and I grabbed Sculptor which looks nice and Saga and nail biter trades!
    Thanks guys!

      1. Yeah, I would sell as well. If the show flops.. then no one wants it. Sell at it’s current peak I say as well, especially if you got a cover.

  8. Is anyone speculating on Jessica Cruz as the next film version of Green Lantern: Justice League 30 and 31. I am not counting G.L. 20.

  9. I just read the tpb of Trees, and thought it was awesome. Never bought any of the single issues, but glad I picked up the tpb. Like many of you, I also am behind on reading. My collection continues to grow.

  10. Has any one checked out these titles ( I have not but am wondering what everyone thinks)? Pirate Eye Exiled From Exile #1, Plunder #1, Stray #1 and New Zodiax #1. If so what did you think and are they worth picking up?

    1. I read New Zodiax.. it was okay. Not sure how I feel about continuing with the series but from what I understand, each issue will cover a new character…. so it’s a wait and skim.
I plan on reading Plunder before Wednesday. The others I did not pick up myself.

  11. Suiciders 1 was my big favorite, did not see that coming. People have been looking for Inhuman #4 in my area and I can’t find a Defenders #28 in VF+ shape or better anywhere.

    1. I was shocked when I found Defenders 27 and 28 in VF+ condition at a local comic show for $7! I had seen those locally for $80+. I snagged those bad boys up quickly.

  12. I just want to say, if you have an EOSV #2 1st print that is in really bad shape, been handled by kids… it still sells. I have one listed currently with a few hours left and it’s already over $50. Yes, abused copy of Edge of Spider-Verse #2 that is fetching top dollar. 😉

    1. So I saw the pics. Looked like there were no color-breaking creases or dents, were there? If not, you could have pressed those out and gotten 2x your money! Still though, solid score for an imperfect book.

      1. Meh, not worth my effort. I only paid $4 for the book so I’m good. The creases were longer than what I could get in the pictures though, pressing it might bring it up a little more but it’s always going to be a damaged book to me. 😉

      2. Ha! I bought once for $3.99 at a show that was beat up. I sent it to get pressed and it came back nice. There’s still a big color-breaking crease on the back cover, and a 1/8″ tear on the bottom front cover, but it looks better. When I finally sell it, I think the pressing will help the final sale.

  13. What are you guy’s thoughts on the movie cover variants for the DC books in March? Will they be worth anything?
