AMC orders two seasons of Walking Dead spinoff

It is unusual for a TV network to order a second season of a show before the first one airs, or the episodes have finished filming, but AMC has done that with the Walking Dead Spinoff.

AMC also released the first still picture, shown above.

The series, which was codenamed “Cobalt” during the production of the pilot, is said by unnamed sources to be a prequel to AMC’s blockbuster zombie drama. Similar to “The Walking Dead’s” debut season back in 2010, the spinoff’s first season will consist of six hour-long episodes. The series is set to debut in “late summer,” according to the announcement, with the already greenlit second season slated for 2016.

    1. Not yet, I hope that they tie characters in or do the spin off comic series that Kirkman has talked about. But other than that, any additional interest in the Walking Dead series can only mean a higher return in value on the series.

      1. From what I read, Kirkman was really excited to do this show as all original, no characters from comics, etc. I think he wanted it to just be based at same time Rick and company were doing their thing in another part of the country. If anything comic related, they’ll make a comic based off this spin off, if that ever happens.

    1. Based from comic but according to Kirkman.. won’t be any crossovers, at least that’s what he’s claimed for now from what I’ve read.
The only other thing I hope that doesn’t happen is they start making too many spin-offs. Like Law & Order.. great show (I still watch the reruns, drives my wife crazy when she’s asked how many times I’ve seen an episode), then we had a Law & Order in every damn city with special victims units… blah blah blah… which all ruined the first one.

      1. You don’t want to see Walking Dead Special Victims Unit?
        In the apocalypse,
Sexually based zombies are considered especially heinous.
In New York City, the dedicated detectives who investigate these vicious zombies are members of an elite squad known as the Walking Dead Special Victims Unit. These are their stories .

        1. That made me laugh.. now, if they did a show like that, I would watch it for sure! Only if they bring in Sam Waterston though.. he was my favorite.
