Variant Envy: Spider-Gwen 4 & 5 ComicXposure Variants

Just got these images today. ComicXposure has put out new images of their Spider Gwen variants for issues 4 & 5. Issue 4 deals with the death of Peter Parker (not the 616 version) and what happend afterwards that lead Gwen to become Spider-Gwen.

  1. I finally finished reading Spider-Gwen #2 and #3.. I’m likely going to pull out myself. The story is just lacking to me (art is cool though). I am digging Silk’s story line though still.. more original. This Spider-Gwen is pretty much just Peter Parker’s story in another universe, slightly altered but nonetheless.. same thing.

  2. That number 5 cover is pretty sweet. I think it’s been hit-or-miss with a lot of the variants. Of course my OCD has required that I purchase at least 1 copy of every variant for the PC… 🙂

  3. Way to ruin it for me. Lol I’m a binge reader and just picked up #1 to read this am. I’m so behind it isn’t even funny.

      1. Sorry about that.. If it makes you feel any better, I was actually behind myself, had picked up Guardians Team-Up up to #4.. glad I finally caught up, not gonna buy any more of those either.

      2. Sounds like I need to get caught up so I quit wasting money I have guardians team up also. I have all of the back vortex arc waiting to read too. I thought I wouod get caught up driving to LA pfft

      3. Some might get into Guardians Team-Up, just wasn’t for me. If I had read #1 though before buying 2-4, I would have saved myself some money.
As for Black Vortex, I skimmed the first issue, knew I wasn’t going to get into it. I’ve just skimmed my Guardians of the Galaxy and other issues they’re crossing over into for now until that arc is over.
I’m all X-Men’d out though.. probably one reason I’m not into it, same goes for the AXIS story arc.. just zero desire to read X-Men crap right now.. except Magneto though, that’s some good stuff!

  4. I’m enjoying both the stories and art-styles of Spider-Gwen and Silk and hope that both last long and become in time icon legendary marvel characters (though with three spider power ladies series at one time probably hurts unintentionally each other dividing possible fans who might just pick one spider). Both series (and Ms Marvel) have me desiring and interest in each new issue each month moreso then other series that I’m looking into. I can see the arguments about Gwen being like Peter during some of her banter with the villains and that guilt ridding mindset and self-hate yet looking at the gritty dark world she exists in, lifestyle and teachings she grew up with, and peers she grew up around how she thinks and reacts as Gwen and Spider-Woman seems natural in her, words, actions, and mindset. Besides that Gwen is different from Peter and Gwen of 616 universe but has a strong need of redemption of a sin she can’t forgive herself for and be a worthy hero and not be the worst spider (she considers herself a failure of a spider powered hero and sees Gwen Stacy/herself as a problem). I enjoy Gwen/Spider-Gwen and she stands out in a great way in every page she is on both in and out of costume.
One of the key aspects that draws me in is the world of earth-65 and the differences, similarities, and fun and shocking changes that world brings and the mystery of what we might discover next. Also with Gwen’s dad living and knowing her secret and the dynamic between Gwen and her worried Dad is great.
As far as the covers go I have picked and bought for my own personal collection my personal favorite looking covers (variant or even regular covers) thus far willing to spend up to $16 for the issue #1 and #2 and $11 budget for #3. Now looking into #4 and #5 covers I’ve lowered my budget down to under $10 but willing to spend the extra dollars should I find I really love a certain cover or else I will buy the comics with the normal cover or a variant under 6 dollars.
For issue 4 I’m stuck between NYC variant believe to be selling for $5 and possible for me to pick it up at Midtown Store on the release date or spend the extra for the $10 ComicXposure and wait from 3-7 days for it to come in the mail (plus buy other comics series I’m following on that site to gain the free shipping. I like both covers and the NYC one looks beautiful and full of artistic details but I do like the ComicXposure one slightly more due to the cover is more accurate to what the mood of the series is like and what reads can expect to find inside. Many of the variant covers in the past has had Gwen looking pretty and with her earth-616 counterpart long hair vs Gwen’s Earth-65 short hair.
Many of the variants while nice doesn’t show the right darker tone found inside and further doesn’t really have Earth-65 Gwen but really 616 Gwen on the covers of most of them due to the details such as hair length but now it seems the artists are picking up the atmosphere and details of both the character and the world she is in such as ComicXposure #3 variant having true Earth-65 Gwen on the cover (which I just got in the mail today and it is a great cover).
For #5 I like ComicXposure cover but this time I like moreso the regular cover and the art style on it and is currently my favorite regular Spider-Gwen cover artwork thus I might just get that one.
I want to ask people here which of the two variant covers do you like the most: The NYC Variant Spider-Gwen #4 cover or the ComicXposure variant #4 cover?

  5. It seems that comicxposure has uploaded the now colored version of the picture above for issue #4
The black and white non color I feel gives it a somber feeling but the colored one is still sad but also beautifully colored adding some life. Trying to pick only one cover (NYC or the ComicXposure #4) has gotten more difficult but right now I’m leaning towards the comicxposure one due to the mournful and shame Gwen holding the dead Peter that is more accurate and emotionally powerful moreso then Spider-Gwen looking pretty in NYC (though the art is extremely beautiful and well made but even by the other covers I found myself liking Harkeye and Hulk NYC covers more as it shows some of the pleasures that can be found and experienced in NYC and the characters taking advantage of it vs Gwen overlooking NYC).
I’m new to the comic world (Edge of the Spider-Verse Gwen Stacy Spider-Woman comic caught my eye only in September and out of fascination I bought it when it came out and loved Spider-Gwen and she plus Ms Marvel 2014 were the ones who got me into comics). When I buy comics I buy with the intention of keeping for myself plus sticking to a budget and limiting to a few characters series whom I will follow thus usually I would just get my favorite cover for each issue (within reason and budget) and that would be it but for the upcoming Spider-Gwen this choice is a bit more difficult for me to make as i like both but leaning more to comicxposure yet the NYC variant is cheaper. Perhaps I might just get both (the NYC one when it comes out and use that version to read from and take and use the online digital copy code from that comic while ordering and keeping in mint condition and placing on a sheaf the comicXposure comic of issue #4 (I found this cheap but very effective Multi-angle Non-slip Stand Holder made for tablets to be a great way to place comics on a sheaf keeping them upright and non-distracting to look at and enjoy like works of art http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GRS4IZW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 )
Again I would love to get other people’s options and insight to help me make this financial decision.
