Wednesday Open Forum

Wednesday

Wednesday, the best day of the week, new comic book day. It is like your birthday in the middle of each week (well, one where you buy your own presents.)

We open things up to hear from you. A free for all.

What are your pick ups?
What about back issue raids?
What was sold out at your store?
What was sitting one the shelves in piles?

Or anything else you want to talk about, here is where to do it!

  1. My picks and I’m slimming this weeks picks down some cause well, I’ve been picking up way too many titles. It’s hard to keep up now, it’s hard to know what’s going on in each title I’m reading.. so on.

So here’s my definite pickups.. (a few would of gotten dropped but they’re coming to an end so might as well finish them off):

Rebels #6 (Coming to an end but I love Revolutionary War stories)
    Batman #44 (I’m Baaattttmmmmmaaaaaaaaaaaan!!!)
Suiciders #6 (Great story, great art.. it’s a must)
Bitch Planet #5 (I’m on the fence with this one, her long delays are killing me)
Faster Than Light #1 (An Image #1, must check out since it’s Sci Fi)
Outcast #12 (I picked it back up after picking up #11… we’ll see how long it lasts)
    Starve #4 (Still digging it)
Walking Dead #146 (Duh, if I could only pick one comic to read going forward, this one would be it)
Civil War #4 (I keep skimming to verify if I’m gonna like it and plan to binge read)
Darth Vader #9 (I love Darth Vader)
Journey to Star Wars #1 (Must pick up)
Planet Hulk #5 (I keep skimming to verify if I’m gonna like it and plan to binge read)
Red Skull #3 (I keep skimming to verify if I’m gonna like it and plan to binge read)
Lantern City #5 (It’s on the fence but I like it still)
Ninjak #7 (Such a good read, can’t drop this one)
Letter 44 #20 (I’m still digging it and invested so much into it, must push forward)
Grievous Journey Archibald #6 (Coming to an end but I would of picked this one up anyways, I think it’s one of the best reads this year for me, highly underrated)

I might pick up a few of the indie picks of mine but beyond that, this is 17 and counting, gonna be way pass my $50 budget goal I originally setup when buying comics long ago.

    Comics I’m dropping:

Harrow County (Loved it but ended the first arc I think, so maybe pick it up later)
Savior (Was really into it but not enough to make me continue reading, perhaps another one to pick up later, TPB or the like)
Americatown (Liked first issue but not enough for me to pick up #2 since I’m cutting some out)

  2. I ordered a ThirdEye shattered empire variant.
    Also a Hyperspace Variant.

    Renew your Vows Comixposure variant.

Also a few copies of the Secret Wars Secret Love Campion cover.

Shooting for a Headlopper 1 if my LCS has any. Also a Alice Cooper vs. Chaos .

      1. For sure. Alice Cooper is the man. Hats off to any person that can still be relevant enough decades after their prime to get a comic.

      2. There is a great doc. on Netflix Streaming called SuperMensch. It’s about Shep Gordon, Coopers lifelong manager. Really good watch. They basically hang out and golf together now…the good life!

  3. This week’s picks;

Batman #44 ( gotta have Batman)
Savior #6 ( last issue. The story is dragging and not getting my attention like that any more)
Giant size little marvel AVX #4 ( for the little one)
Lantern City #5 ( still digging it)
Start Wars shattered Empire #1 ×2 and the 1:25. ( got it for $10 and couldn’t pass on the sweet cover)
Harley Quinn Road Trip special #1 ( for the wife. The 1:25 has been hard to find. Will keep looking though lol. Happy wife happy life lol)
Journey to Star Wars: the Force Awakens- The Weapon of a Jedi HC ( for my oldest son. Hopefully by reading this he will learn the ways of the force)

One cool thing that happened this weekend was since I didn’t get to buy the AF on Friday, I put the Star Wars movie on. Return of the Jedi ofcourse. And the little one starts says ” taa ta Tata ta taa ta tatatata” to the theme song. That made my day. I almost teared up lol. Might of failed with the first one but not the second one lol

  4. Star Wars: Shattered Empire #1: It’s Star Wars. Nuff said. Personally, my favorite expanded universe titles in the old continuity were always right after ROTJ. Let’s see how Marvel does with it.

Darth Vader #9: Mixed reviews about Darth Vader running around with his tail between his legs. I’m still enjoying the hell out of this book, though. The new Sherlock-Holmes-esque character is a great corollary to Aphra’s Indiana Jones.

Siege #3: Of all the titles promising interesting insights into Battleworld, this one is actually delivering!

Secret Wars 2099 #5: I’m looking forward to just ending some Secret Wars titles. This was my first “all-in” on an event. I don’t regret it, but this was one of the rough titles to get through.

Mrs. Deadpool and the Howling Commandos #4

    Civil War #4

    A-Force #4

    1602 Witch Hunter Angela #3

Ninjak #7: This book is just nuts. Really great work going into this book every month.

  5. This weeks picks
    Action comics
    Batman
    Batman superman
    Civil war
    Earth 2
    Giant sized little marvel
    Mrs dead pool
    Outcast
    Shield quake special
    Star Trek green lantern
    Darth vader
    Shattered empire
    Renew your vows
    Walking dead

Was at fan expo this weekend. Got a Tim seeley sketch done (Grayson and midnighter stare down) as well as ten books signed. Was pissed Jeff lemire bailed on sat so I only got two of three signatures on all new hawkeye and no sig on my descender and descender fcg variant. WB was giving out sweet mad max shotgun bottle openers and I won a yoda figure from that infinity game spinning a wheel of chance. Not a bad day. Oh and a dead pool mask.

  6. Oh yeah another book that I forgot is Amazing Spider-man Renew your vows #5 comicxposure variant. That’s if they ship it out this week.

  7. ASM Renew Your Vows #5 (comicxposure variant)
Star Wars Shattered Empire #1 (Third Eye Variant)
    Batman #44
    Civil War #4
    Darth Vader #9
Giant Sized Little Marvel #4 (for the little ‘un but actually a real fun read)

    Insufferable #5
Korvac Saga #4 (this series has been one of the hidden gems of Secret Wars)
    Planet Hulk #5
Quake SHIELD 50th Anniversary #1 (action figure variant)
    Red Sonja/Conan #2 (1:15 variant)
Star Trek/Green Lantern #3 (sub cover)
    Vampirella/Army of Darkness #3 (1:10 cover).

Also picked up very cheap Avengers vol. 5 #15 (marvel now) – The first appearance of POD who is meant to have more of a role in the upcoming New Avengers series.

  8. Just got my Comic Con boxes in today. I get all the loot crates and Marvel Collector Corps. boxes but this one takes the cake. Everything about it was great. If you’re a fan of Guns N Roses or Predator then the t shirt is for you. Needless to say the Batman Adventures 12 Variants are ridiculous too

    1. Well OMG, opened the third box and whadya know. Bonus Item Winner Sticker and underneath is a brand new ROKU. Unbelievable

  9. No ASM Renew Your Vows or Batman at my LCS. I guess it was allocated away from my region. That’s ok because I hit another goal this week which was to spend below $20.00 on non-pay-day weeks. Gotta save for that house down payment! That’s the glory of a pull box-it will all be there on pay day!

    I’m lame, I know.

            1. Also, most weren’t in great condition, seems the way it was printed and stapled but this variant I grabbed looks flawless.

  10. Just noticed Scooby-Doo Where Are You #61 out today has a Harley Quinn story inside. She isn’t on the cover like the one out in a couple weeks but still interesting

    1. I don’t have a copy on hand yet but this is the description from Midtown:
An urgent cry for help sends Scooby and the gang rushing to Gotham City – but the call was made by Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy! They stole an ancient relic, and now they’re sure it was cursed. Our heroes have to join Harley and Ivy to get to the bottom of the mystery-and, with a little help from Batgirl, they just might capture the villains, too!

  11. Is anyone finding the Five Below Star Wars #1 Exclusive in the west and south like Texas,Georgia?$8.99 cover for $5.00.

  12. 64 page giant for $5.00. It’s a nice book. There is a Vader and a Star Wars. Both reprint #1 and #2.No Variant or new art.Same cover as the 2015 Marvel #1’s. Not sure but it might be a regional allotment. These are big books.

      1. They are with the star wars display. In stacks. No bags.Loose.A header tag on the shelf states $5.00.For each not for both.Stores got an allotment based on sales of Star Wars merchandise for Forced Friday promotion.Worth a look if you are not burnt out on Star Wars books already.
