Each week, hundreds of new books come out.. yes, a line stolen straight from Tony’s mouth in his picks of the week post. I’m here to tell you that only a few are worthy of being picks, because Super Secret Agent Poyo is picky and can’t afford every new book (sorry, Secret Agents are not rich, don’t let James Bond or Ninjak fool you, we’re poor as heck).
Anyways, lots of new books are coming out this week.. so let’s pick the winners (or the most interesting to pick up and just enjoy to read).
DC/Vertigo Pick:
Batman TMNT #5 (DC) – These are just cool comics and quite frankly, nothing else really stands out this week from DC and Vertigo. Sadly, I just don’t get that excited for DC books anymore, they don’t have the same effect that Marvel and Indie books have.
Marvel Pick:
Moon Knight #1 (Marvel) – Forget (I would use the other F word but Tony would of likely edited it anyways, need to keep the site kid friendly) Gwenpool.. Moon Knight is a much better character and read. Gwenpool was created just so Marvel can cash out with all you suckers who are gonna go out and waste your money on the dumbest character ever! Grab the Powell variant if you can find it for Moon Knight.
Honorable Mention goes to C3PO Special #1. We learn how he gets his red arm in The Force Awakens.
Image Picks:
Monstress #5 (Image) – Pick it up, pick up two, this series is hot. With no special variants and it keeps going back for reprints, it’s definitely something special.
Black Road #1 (Image) – A new Brian Wood book, under Image. Definitely worth checking out.
Honorable Mention goes to Citizen Jack. Probably one of my newest favorite reads. If you like twisted comics with a bit of political non-sense, you must read this. It likely explains half the political process out there (without the demons and killing of others.. well, maybe not so much demons, we all know politicians love their inner demons). Plus this one features a Riley Rossmo cover.
The Horror Pick of the Week:
House of Penance #1 (Dark Horse) – I don’t think I’ve had a Dark Horse pick in a long long time. I bet this one is on Tony’s radar as must check out. It has praise from both Scott Snyder and Garth Ennis, let’s hope they weren’t paid to say nice things and this one is a great pickup and read.
That’s all I got this week. There’s a bunch of Indie #1’s hitting the stands this week, some look like possible pickups while some are gonna be passed over just reading the descriptions.
What are you all spec’ing on or picking up? Tell us here or in the Wednesday Forum post that soon follows this one.

Oh Poyo, you disappoint me. I expected you to have GWENPOOL as your #1 pull.
Ssshhhh… I make sure to make Gwen transactions under the radar, my LCS knows to set these in the alley for me to pick up so no one sees me buy them.
unmarked brown paper bag for his Gwen purchases
Honestly, I like these Gwen books.. while everyone is running for these stupid books, it gives me time to grab the better books and variants like Moon Knight and other variants at cover. 😉
I have a love/hate with Gwenpool. She’s making me money. The writing isn’t half bad–her back-up in HTD was hilarious. I just don’t think Marvel should jump the shark on this one.
Gwenom actually makes sense. If Spider-Gwen is existing in a parallel timeline as Peter Parker–Spider-Man, why wouldn’t the symbiote bond with her now? But, still, they ae dangerously close to jumping the sharp.
Keeping my HTD #1 Lim to the PC because (a) I sold two already at $80.00 after buying for cover; (b) I love Ron Lim; and (c) hashtag fail hydra.
All that said, I will take you up on your Moon Knight tip, though.
I mentioned in another post my love for Moon Knight, and, “Citizen Jack,” has continued to get more and more interesting. I concur with these picks!
I am loving Citizen Jack, such an odd book. But it is Sam Humphries. Moon Knight I can’t wait for, I just said that about a Marvel book!
Moon Knight is awesome. They need to do a movie already..
I would be happy to see him on Netflix even.
If done right, yes, I would welcome that as well.
