Agent Poyo's Picks Of The Week For June 15th, 2016

Each week, hundreds of new comics hit the shelves at our local comic book stores and it feels like my bank account buys at least of of them. This week is no different, lots of new stuff coming out and what’s been hot this past month? DC and it’s Rebirth story line. So let’s get on with the picks.
DC/Vertigo Pick
Batman #1 (DC) – This is a no brainer. Midtown listed them limiting to 1 per customer to start off with. Sure the print run is going to be huge but who cares, this is Volume 3 with Tom King taking over for Snyder, so it likely has potential to be another sure hit like New 52 #1 which goes for good money despite the huge print run it also had.
Superman #1 (DC) – This is more of an honorable pick. It’s Volume 5 of Superman and with all the hoopla about his son in Rebirth, probably need to pay attention to this new volume.
Marvel Pick
Star Wars Han Solo #1 (Marvel) – Yes, Civil War II #2 is out and you should pay attention to that series but it’s Han Solo, with his own title… it’s a must pick up. It’s also written by Marjorie Lui.. yes, of Monstress small fame and CHU favorite.
Spidey #7 (Marvel) – It’s a sweet cover and it’s guest starring Black Panther. This series has been great, takes you back to the roots of Spider-Man and the cover art has been just fantastic.
Honorable Mention goes to Star Wars #20 JTC Yoda Action Figure Variant. It’s Yoda, who doesn’t love Yoda?
Indie Picks
Black Eyed Kids #3 (After-Shock) – Great series, it’s definitely worth checking out. Can’t go wrong with Francavilla doing the cover art as well.
Norman #1 Cover B (Titan) Cover B – Yes, the second cover that was not shipped last week hits stands this week. Cover A still seems to be commanding above cover price in the secondary market.
Carver Paris Story #4 (Z2 Comics) – I can’t give this comic enough praise. Great art, great story. It’s a true indie original book at it’s core.
Returning Favorite Picks
Klaus #6 (BOOM!) – Great art, great read.. it’s been optioned.
Manifest Destiny #20 (Image) – One of my other favorites. After a long absence, been looking forward to this new story arc now.
Descender #12 (Image) – Can they just go ahead and make this a movie or something? It’s that good.
Devolution #5 (Dynamite) – Another one that needs to be a movie. Remender can hit it spot on with some of his stories, this is one of those. Low #14 hits stands as well, another Remender great title.
That’s all I got..

  1. Descender was optioned right before it was released! They need to get it moving along already!

  2. Yeah Descender is so freakin’ good. Lemire’s writing with Dustin’s art style is perfect. I’m starting to feel a similar way with Dept H.
Don’t sleep on Black Hammer from Lemire in a few weeks!
