Agent Poyo's Picks of the Week for June 22, 2016

Rebirth Rebirth Rebirth.. that’s all the hoopla the past few weeks. So some have been quick easy flips. People are certainly going crazy for the reboot stories. So what’s new this week? Flash is coming out, along with Wonder Woman and Aquaman.. will there be any surprises? Any new characters that we saw in the one-shot Rebirth issues? Only this Wednesday will tell, unless you seek out the spoilers ahead of time that is..
So let’s get on with the picks, shall we?

DC/Vertigo Pick
Flash #1 (DC) – A new speedster debuts? Godspeed or another new character? Definitely worth checking out.
Marvel Pick
Star Wars VII The Force Awakens Adaptation #1 (Marvel) – It’s just an adaptation of the movie but go for the movie incentive variants, they’re already selling out online and these will be the ones Star Wars fans will be going for.. you know, the fans that aren’t usually at the comic book store every Wednesday like the rest of us nerds with our addiction.
Honorable Mentions
Doctor Strange #9 and Power Man and Iron Fist #5 are out this week. Hands down some of the best Marvel titles currently out. Great reads, great art.. The Last Days of Magic story line is just freaking good stuff, do not pass it over.
Image Picks
She Wolf #1 (Image) – A new Image #1. “SHE WOLF is a surreal exploration in horror as the story follows a teenage girl who believes she’s been bitten by a savage werewolf. Soon after she begins to experience feverish nightmares that seamlessly bleed into her everyday reality.”
Rumble #11 (Image) – One of my favorite Image books is back. Great book and the art is fantastic.
Indie Picks of the Week
La Muerta Descent #1 (Coffin Comics) – “Present day. Maria Diaz, a US soldier, returns from Afghanistan to be reunited with her family on the Mexican holiday, Dia de los Muertos. But her brother has fallen in with The Zavalas, a death-worshipping crime cartel led by the nefarious Mama Z. When they see the family celebrating, they believe they’ve been ripped off by them. The entire family is murdered in cold blood. Maria wakes out of a coma Eight months later to find her family dead and gone. She seeks justice finds none: Daring the impossible, Maria decides to avenge her family and send the Zavala’s to hell. Can one woman defeat an entire crime cartel and what will be the cost to her humanity?”
If the artwork is as good as the cover art, along with a great story line, we have a winner here. Expect small print run so seek out the variants, they’ll be ghost variants by next week, tucked away in people’s personal collections.
Divinity II #3 (Valiant) – One of Valiant’s best stories. Original, artwork is great. Matt Kindt has nailed this title with greatness.
That’s all I got. With all the focus on Rebirth, don’t forget about the independents as well, some good stuff, too much to list for sure. But a quick mention that 4 Kids Walk Into A Bank #1 (Black Mask) 2nd print also hits stands. For those that like to gamble on 2nd print rarity, this one might be one to nab if you see it.

  1. Power Man & Iron Fist has been fiddle-faddling awesome! I hope Marvel keeps it alive long enough to find it’s footing, especially considering the Netflix series’ are coming. None of my friends are reading it, but I’ve been twisting arms whenever I can. It’s a really great take on the characters.

    1. Yes, hopefully the new show coming brings more to keep it around for a while. I really hate these titles only going 15-20 issues and then dying off.
