Agent Poyo's Picks of the Week for August 17th, 2016

Welcome again to Agent Poyo’s Picks of the week. Sometimes I’m dead on but most of the time I’m wrong. But honestly I don’t care if I’m wrong because I’m good enough, smart enough and gosh darn it, people like me. Okay, that might be a stretch on the people liking me bit.
Anyways, let’s get on with my picks for this awesome week of new comics.

DC/Vertigo
Suicide Squad #1 (DC) Bermejo Variant – For this one I’m gonna say go with the Lee Bermejo variant. There’s gonna be a lot of these so don’t expect it to be hard to find but if it becomes a winner, it’s gonna be one of those slow burns.
The real winner potential for DC goes to….
Supergirl Rebirth #1 (DC) Adam Hughes Variant – Hughes has a lot of fans, this one will be one every fan will want in their personal collection. Could be a winner down the road. I’m sure it will be heavily ordered but expect these to get tucked away, so supply and demand at play here for another slow burn possibly.
Marvel Pick
Captain America Sam Wilson #12 (Marvel) Tula Lotey Black Panther Variant – Just a sweet cover, especially for Black Panther fans.
Spec of the Week
Briggs Land #1 (Dark Horse) – Been awhile since I think I’ve had a Dark Horse spec but this one is on everyone’s radar, especially with the ashcan variant that is doing well on the secondary market. This is being developed for AMC, so if the show hits our screens, expect this one to have demand when fans of the show (if it’s not a let down of course) find out there’s a comic out there.
Indie Pick of the Week
Carver Paris Story #5 (Z2) – Very underrated book if you ask me. Just a great read, art is awesome. You can’t ask more out of a true independent comic book.
The Image #1
Demonic #1 (Image) – It’s a new Image book, wit hco-creators Kirkman and Silvestri, written by Christopher Sebela. Might have potential but it is a mini-series and we all know mini-series don’t hold heat long like the ongoing ones do.
Now it’s on to Poyo’s favorite pulls and ongoing reads this week, the crap a chicken reads because it’s just good to read.
Black Hammer #2 (Dark Horse) – I love Jeff Lemire. He hardly ever disappoints.
Black Road #5 (Image) – Brian Wood, just like Lemire hardly disappoints as well.
Descender #14 (Image) – Another Lemire book. See above, this one is great and needs to be a movie or show.
Manifest Destiny #22 (Image) – Still a great read and I’m glad it’s back on track after it’s hiatus.
All New Wolverine #11 (Marvel) – I was all Wolverined out but this one has kept my attention and it’s a fresh welcome to someone other than Logan being Wolverine.
Black Widow #6 (Marvel) – LAst volume was awesome, this one is on track to be awesome. Plus Scarlett Johannson is my girlfriend, she just doesn’t realize it yet, so I love me some Black Widow.
Daredevil Punisher #4 (Marvel) – Great series so far. I love Punisher, never was a big fan of Daredevil but that’s changing nowadays with Netflix show and Soule writing it.
Mockingbird #6 (Marvel) – Hands down, a great read.
Star Wars Poe Dameron #5 (Marvel) – I love Star Wars. Did you read that right? Yes, I love Star Wars. This is a must read.
Klaus #7 (Boom!) – I wish it all came out around the holidays last year as it’s Christmas themed but this has been an awesome read.
That’s all I got. Shout out if you enjoy these picks. Shout out if you think I should just stop torturing you all and wasting precious zero’s out on the interwebs.. or just stay quiet but for certain, buy more comics!

  1. Good list. I have a 2 or 3 each of those Supergirl and Suicide Squad variants pre-ordered. I’m also liking All New Wolv.

  2. Nice you put Mockingbird on there…I started picking it up solely for the Joelle Jones cover art (she is going to be a breakout star soon, Lady Killer is just work!). But Mockingbird has been a great read, good art too.

  3. Thanks for your kind words about Carver. I often feel like the odd man out amongst my peers because I (strangely) just want to make comics I’d love to read instead of focusing on trying to be Robert Kirkman hahaha.

    1. Thank you Christopher Hunt for popping in. Poyo and I have been fans since the book came out. You do not need to be Kirkman, but this story needs to be on film

    2. We don’t need you to become Kirkman.. like Anthony said. Your book and art are just fine how they are. But yes, Carver on film would be awesome.

      1. Also, as a huge Paul Pope fan, loved seeing his work on the cover and follow up on issue 1. Couldn’t have brought in a cooler guest artist on the first book.
