The Love is Love Mystery

Thanks to Kevin at Frankie’s Comics for sending over the retailer notice
As many people have been discusssing, and in what cause a minor headache to sellers on eBay, ALL the copies of Love is Love that went out Wednesday were marked as Second Prints. The following is the message sent out to retailers explaining the situation and talking about the “Second Print” issue.

Dear Diamond Customer:
IDW Publishing has issued the following advisory to retailers regarding Love Is Love (OCT160480), which shipped to stores this week.
“As some of you are aware, Love Is Love, the one-shot anthology IDW is publishing, in partnership with DC, which both pays tribute to and benefits the victims of the Orlando Pulse nightclub shooting, arrived to your store as a ‘2nd Printing.’
This is due to a printing error on the UPC code of the 1st Printing that caused the book to be delayed. At the same time, a second printing was initiated — and now a third — all great for the organization but the re-stickering of the first print caused this error to occur.
We apologize for the inconvenience and regret any confusion. The intentions of this book are sincere with the goal being for something positive to come out of the tragedy that sparked it. Our hope is that the misprint will not disrupt aiding those who were affected most and should not be punished for this error.
Demand has exceeded supply on this book by a significant quantity, but if you feel strongly that you need to return the second printings, please contact your Retailer Services Representative.

They do not mention shipping out the First Print. However, they do say there was a re-stirckering effort so not sure if first print copies will have a sticker over the barcode.
Let us know if you have a copy that does have a stickered bar code.

  1. So the 2nd print is in all reality really the first print, no matter what it says. I don’t know I’m still confused. Maybe it’s lucky I only got one……maybe not.

    1. My guess is they will have to recall this. The spec advantage of this is probably a little higher than the recent recalled Saga. Also, I think the “for real” 2nd print will have to be different. Good luck!

      1. Not sure they will recall it but they have said retailers can return it based on the second print on the page. Tons of people have emailed me based on my eBay listing of the book. I keep directing them to my site post for clarification

  2. So, shouldn’t the first writing, which reads “Second Printing” be identified as a first printing by its UPC code?

    1. Not sure trade paperbacks are bar coded the same way floppy comics are. Wth that being said, this is barcoded like a trade paperback, which it could be considered.

        1. That is what I figured was going to happen. Haven’t seen them in the US yet but heard from several people about copies showing up in the U.K.

  3. I recently purchased one on eBay from the U.K. and it’s a first print with the upc sticker over the wrong upc. So I guess that they where shipped there first and ended up shipping out 2nd prints in the U.S.. So, the question remains for the collector, which one is more rare than the other?
