Poyo's Picks of the Week for February 8th, 2017

It’s that time again, where we make our weekly trip and support our local comic book shops with our hard earned cash. So what’s it going to be this week that heats up? No one knows really until it happens as the secondary market is a truly unpredictable thing. It’s like trying to predict when the sun won’t rise in the East, but I’m sure when that happens, no one is gonna know or care, we’ll all be dead already. So, let’s get on with these stinkin’ picks Poyo, you’re boring your readers with your nonsense..
DC/Vertigo
Justice League America Rebirth #1 (DC) – Lobo is part of the JLA? Could be interesting. It makes the list as my DC pick since there’s really nothing else coming out except my regular pulls, which I must say, is surprising. Usually by now I’m done with them all except Batman but I’m still onboard with Flash and Superman.
Marvel
Kingpin #1 (Marvel) – I love the Kingpin, probably one of the most realistic villains in the Marvel universe. Be sure to check out or try to find the Bill Sienkiewicz cover for cheap, already sold out online as I don’t expect most shops ordered enough for this variant.
Small Publisher Pick
Black Science #28 (Image) – Issue number 28? Yeah, don’t expect anything in particular with this issue but why is it a pick? Because lately, this book has been on fire, on a reading level. The artwork has always been spot on and great but Remender is really hitting this one out of the ballpark for me.
Indie Pick
Fissure #1 (Vault Comics) – Tim Daniel new book. Based out of Texas. Sure, sign me up. I enjoy Tim’s writing and with this likely getting a small print run, likely getting overlooked, it might be tough to find.
This week is short and simple for sure. Honestly not a whole lot of spec books but definitely some great reads. I could list them all but then there would be no point in creating a picks list.

  1. You say there would be no point in sharing your, “Picks list,” but I would read such a thing! You can learn a lot about someone by the comics they read. I read a weird assortment of literary indie books, some of the more off-beat super-hero titles, and some of the really cheesecake-styled Boundless books. I don’t know what that says about me other than my genre-interests vary greatly!

    1. Mine are scattered as well.
For example, I originally picked up Spongebob comics for the kids. Now I pick them up for myself. I think some of the cover art done for these are just fantastic as well, very underrated books and artwork.

          1. My daughter was obsessed with spongebob. We’ve gone through it with all 3 of the kids. Spongebob was the one show that I could watch with them and actually enjoyed. Although the later episodes kind of got weird and lost their charm.

    2. It’s funny that you say that because retailers tell me all the time that the Wednesday open for him is the favorite part. And the reason is they see firsthand what people are buying in different areas
