Comic Picks of the Week for Delivery 3/14/18

Each week tons of new comics hit the shelves, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are our picks of the week for delivery 3/14/18:

Returning Favorites
Pumpkinhead #2 – Now that Spread is over, I am picking up Pumpkinhead because of Kyle Strahm’s art and he is teamed with Cullen Bunn writing.

Beauty #20 – One of my favorite ongoing series. Before Jeremy Haul put out Realm, this series was an awesome read that people didn’t notice.

Mage The Hero Denied #7 – Matt Wagner doing one of the two great self-published characters.

New Image #1
Infidel #1 – Of the two new Image series coming out this week, this is the one with the most potential. I read the firs tissue an enjoyed it.

DC’s Killer B Line Up
Birds of Prey #20 Adam Hughes Variant – One of the Killer Bs coming out this week. Big name artist on a cover price variant, plus a great looking cover.

Justice League Of America #26 Francesco Mattina Variant (available on eBay) – Another sweet cover from a big name artist for cover price. Black Canary gets a lot of love on covers this week.

Scooby Apocalypse #23 Ben Oliver Variant – I love horror. I love Scooby Doo. This cover is sick and selling out. On Amazon for cover price.

Supergirl #19 Stanley Artgerm Lau Variant (available on eBay) – DC has all the heavy hitters out this week. Another great Artgerm cover. Hate that his run is ending.

Suicide Squad #37 Andrea Sorrentino Variant (available on eBay) – Incredible variant that will be more likely to be under ordered than the Mattina, Hughes, and Artgerm.

Reprint Worth Grabbing
True Believers Venom Lethal Protector #1 – Venom Movie is based off this book. The first prints are selling for decent money considering everyone had one back in the day, here is your chance to grab one for $1.

Small Press Gem
Vampironica #1 – I would be lying if I told you I wasn’t excited about this book. Afterlife with Archie not being published in a while has been a drag. Jughead The Hunger has been good. Looking forward to this mash up of Veronica and Vampires. Francavilla has a great cover, as is the Djibril Morrissette-Phan Cover

Pick of the Week
Avengers #684 (available on eBay) – Avengers has been on fire lately. This one is already going for $10 as of Sunday night. First appearance of the Immortal Hulk… (Ok, it is Bruce Banner’s return as the Hulk, but in an all new direction.)

    Vampironica looks awesome

  2. A. King says:

I really liked Afterlife with Archie, but I’ll never let myself get into another ArArchie horror title.

    • Anthony says:

Jughead the hunger has been very solid and coming out on time. Not like Sabrina or afterlife. I am looking forward to Vampironica

I’m done with the Archie Horror titles as well. If they ever finish them to actual story completion, I’ll just pick them up in trade or omnibus to read.

The only thing I do like is the Francavilla covers but I’ve been skipping over those as well. If I ever do want to go back and get them, they’re typically pretty easy to get for cheap.
