Who is the Red Goblin?

Early on it was assumed that Norman Osborn, who recently bonded with the Carnage Symbiote, was the character who would become the Red Goblin. Spec has been furious on when the character would appear. When it was discovered that Carnage had freed Norman of the nanobots that prevented him from becoming Green Goblin, people started thinking.
When Amazing Spider-man #797 (available on eBay) was released, we saw Norman Osborn run the Goblin King through, to what was believed to be his death, but the action took place off panel.

The Amazing Spider-man #799 Clayton Crain Variant (available on eBay) from ComicXposure, seen to the left, has both the Green Goblin and Red Goblin on the cover.
This has lead people to speculate that Norman isn’t the Red Goblin and it could be Phil Urich, aka the Goblin King, who could be the Red Goblin. If Phil does become the Red Goblin then his first appearance in Web of Spider-Man #125 (available on eBay)  could be worth the $3 price tag.

      1. Yeah, Mycomicshop lists the one without the holograph as newsstand but both covers have direct edition printed on them.

  1. So can everyone please stop selling 794, 795, 796, 797 as first RedGoblin!! Tired of seeing this false information posted on a every eBay listing for these books.

    1. Oh gosh i truly hope it’s not Osborne! The comic read and literally said “we are carnage” not we are “red goblin”. Heck they don’t even look the same, other than being red that is.
I know there’s been quite a few speculators thumping that 795 was Red Goblins first app. I would love it to be to just be like yeah nope, good luck on those returns you’ll be getting soon enough for false details/descriptions in your listings.

  2. Man and i passed on that book for a $1 a few weeks ago. Saw the shiny thingy on the cover and was like this is cool. But i don’t know anything about it and just left it.

  3. This would be shocking news if the Goblin King turns out to be the Red Goblin. As a reader of comics I am loving it but as a speculator not so much. Dan Slot going out with a bang. Bravo.

  4. However the “big reveal” shakes out, there seems to be a consensus toward “Amazing Spider-Man #798” / April 4th .. as the one .. if order numbers I’m hearing are true, I don’t know if this issue will have any real spec value, even out of the gate .. Slott’s got 3 issues left ..

    1. The real winner out of all of this, is the readers and Amazing Spider-Man fans who dont have to endure Dan Slott writing any longer.
Ding Dong Dan is GONE….. Dan is gone, oh Dan is gone. Ding Dong oh Dan is gone he is….. (Yes, I was changing the Wizard of Oz the witch is dead lyrics singing that out loud).

    2. Marvel informed retailers about a week and half ago that 798 will be the 1st RG. That has been confirmed. Diamond then extended the FOC for the book. You’re probably right in the fact that there is not much meat lefton the ASM798 spec bone.

      1. I don’t know why I continue to get this flashback to the mid 1990’s just before the Market Meltdown .. and the Publishers are doing exactly the same things they did back then ..

        1. Its human nature I think… We just seem to never learn from our past mistakes and that goes beyond comics.
