A new book that’s been in the making for quite some time is hitting our local shops stands this week.
I originally read the solicitation for this book and it really didn’t catch my attention at first. Then I was given an advance review copy of Gunning for Hits coming out from Image Comics and from Jeff Rougvie, with art by Moritat.
From the Image solicitation description:
SERIES PREMIERE! Set in the shady New York City music scene of the mid-80s, GUNNING FOR HITS stars Martin Mills, a record company talent scout with an inscrutable past. Follow Martin as he attempts to sign a rock band that’ll conquer the world in this music business crime thriller written by music producer JEFF ROUGVIE (David Bowie, Big Star) with art by MORITAT (The Spirit, Harley Quinn, Hellblazer). Plus: each issue will include a background feature and a Spotify playlist.
I surprisingly enjoyed this first issue way more than I anticipated, since I really didn’t have any expectations. Gunning for Hits is just a cleverly written book and I’m highly anticipating the next issue after reading the first.
Here’s your sneak peak.
Is that Prince on the cover?? Will look for this when it comes out.
The writer produced for Bowie so I think its representing his resemblance for sure.
But seriously, it was a fun read. Totally surprised me how much I enjoyed the first issue.
My first thought was David Bowie. But I see prince in there too
David Prince Bowie it is, then.
I don’t think Prince wore a suit. It’s Bowie Look at his music video Modern Love.Great song
as a huge fan of both Prince and Bowie…that is clearly Bowie. Not even a question.
The pink suit kinda threw me off…writer obviously has ties to Bowie so that’s likely the intention.
Prince wore suits at times, Prince-style suits, of course, mostly around the “Parade” era see the music video (live clip) of “anotherloverholeinyohead” : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zc99JK9gHDk
100% Sir David of Bowie. Zoom in on the eyes.
I ordered Gunning For Hits new (both #1 and 2) because it sounded right up my alley. Waiting til I read the first one to see if #3 is worth ordering this month.
I ordered this book awhile back. Crossing my fingers it’s a good read. Crime and rock and roll?!? How can that not be a winner.
