Taskmaster to be Villain in Black Widow Movie

We Got This Covered is reporting that Taskmaster, the Ultimate Taskmaster, will be the main villain in the Black Widow movie. The Ultimate Taskmaster first appears in Ultimate Spider-Man #26 (Vol. 2)

The original Taskmaster first appeared in Avengers #196.

From We Got This Covered :

We’ve been hearing conflicting reports from Marvel Studios as to what the film will actually be about, with rumors that it would be set around the turn of the Millennium wide of the mark. With the pic looking to shoot in June though, we should know more very soon. But as of right now, we can at least confirm, thanks to our trusted source, that the main villain will be the Taskmaster (based on the Ultimate version), and that Marvel Studios want Moonlight star André Holland for the part.

For those unfamiliar with the Taskmaster, he’s probably one of the more high profile Marvel villains never to have made it to the big screen. His gimmick is that he has perfect muscle memory, meaning that all he needs to do to learn a fighting style is to watch someone using it. As such, the character is an expert swordsman, martial artist, marksman and athlete.

  1. The, “We Got This Covered,” website reports a lot of BS, but I’ve seen this stated enough other places it seems legit in the idea it is drawing from both Taskmasters to some degree or mainly the Ultimate one. Online sales seem to have suddenly gone red-hot in response to this buzz!

  2. I often wonder why folks don’t purchase 1st appearances when buzz is completely dead and on the cheap. Instead of hundreds of sales for exponential prices when something is announced and red hot. Years and years and years later it still baffles me. I have to believe that an individual actually deep down knows their getting taken, but they do it anyway for fear of missing out. There’s definitely a psycho case study with this

    1. Because one could go broke trying to gobble up first appearances. They happen all the time, what we think is a nobody could turn into a somebody at any time so trying to chase these when there is zero buzz will drive a collector insane.

      1. I still pull every All New Xmen book that contains a first appearance out of dollar boxes because one day it may pan out.

  3. So, a $3 yesterday…and now a $100 comic today?

Is this an extremely low print run? I’m expecting some major undercutting the next few days.

    1. Yup, once the market gets swamped while people are digging them out, finding them in back issue bins, we’ll see those people who want the quicker sale.

      1. My only concern is to collectors, tread lightly if you really want this 1st appearance. Villains come and go in the movies and comics. It’s the main characters (heroes) that usually stick around for the long haul.

Unless it’s a high profile popular villain (Joker, Lex Luthor, Green Goblin, etc), these one off villains that make an appearance once a decade seem to fade quickly after their appearances, probably making their only appearance in the movie or show.

        1. Agreed. Does anyone care about Malekith? I would think the first actual Taskmaster would be more than this crap book.

  4. I fully understand it is the “Ultimate Taskmaster” and fotm with the news, but I would take that same $100 and put it towards a nice copy of Avengers 196.
This one just really screams don’t throw your money away.
To each their own of course though. 🙂

  5. I bought four Avengers #194 maybe five years ago. A couple in 7.5/8.0 and a couple more in 9.0 to 9.2. To be honest I didn’t even know there was an “ultimate version” of the character. Can’t win them all. I’m guessing there are still a ton of the Ultimate Spiderman #26 in bins that will most likely be cleared out in the next couple of days so expect the prices to go down from the $100 asking prices seen right now.

I have to agree with Devildog and Poyo. If the characters name is the same between both version outside of other changes, Ultimate version or not, Avengers 194 is still the better book if you are going to spend over $100, long and short term. As with what Poyo stated, as cool as Task Master is most likely he will be a one shot villain which means after the film prices will probably fall on either version.

A lot could change from the rumor phase to what we actually see. My advice, if you have extra of either version sell now! I am going to put a couple of mine out for sale. One still has the price tag still on it from four or five years back at $4.95. Higher grade, probably a 7.5 maybe even an 8.0. I could probably sell very fast at $70 or maybe as high as $90 if I am greedy. Either way time for a couple of these to go to another collection!

  6. Ultimate Taskmaster will be a dud just like Ultimate Venom was from the Venom movie (yes that was the Ultimate Venom origin). Best to stick with the original characters first appearance.

  7. The Venom movie was Ultimate Venom origin and that book did nothing meanwhile ASM #300 doubled in value. Also this will not be Ultimate Taskmaster because he will be the MCU Taskmaster. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is not the Ultimate verse.

      1. That character was specifically modeled after Samuel Jackson and his role in Pulp Fiction. Unlike Taskmaster who’s the same person in ultimate and Earth 616 Ultimate Nick Fury is the son of white Nick Fury and a new character.

        1. I thought, the new 616 Nick Fury was named Marcus Johnson and learned about his parentage of Fury Sr. and his new-character mom before assuming the name Nick Fury as well when Nick Fury Senior became the new Watcher. The Ultimate Nick Fury didn’t have a senior Nick Fury as his dad, he was just Nick Fury and one would assume died with the end of the Ultimate Universe.

  8. One sucker already paid $93…another over $75…another $59 and $39

..if these were 9.6 cgc/cbcs slabs I’d understand it, but Raws on eBay?…all had only one or two photos posted., lol. Wtf are people thinking???

    1. Precisely my point earlier – wtf are people doing/thinking? The craze when things are hot is sad. But I love it. How else would I get rid of my stuff for stupid prices.

        1. FOMO fever is running rampant these days, it seems. I don’t know has it, how they get it, but I’ll supply the goods if I can score them cheap.

“Psst…hey buddy….looking for a hot comic?…First appearance? I got what you need right here…meet me in the alley near the entrance tomthe comic shop.”

  9. Looks like Ultimate Spiderman #26 is already moving significantly lower than where it was last night at this time. I’m seeing high grades with $29 with a best offer option. Can see this being a $20 book before long. Maybe even less. Still not a bad pay off if you were able to score them for $3 or $4. Avengers 196 seems to be holding or climbing slightly after the initial jump in price.

    1. I would agree the Ultimate appearance will probably cool and the first 616 appearance in Avengers will hold or heat-up. Now, if when more info about the movie comes out of something Ultimate-version specific is made evident it might get fiery again. Who knows these days?

  10. Comics gone mad, Avengers #196 didn’t need any hype or movie news as it already had status as a 1st appearance and cover by a renowned artist, why would you put money into a rehash, on movie news?. I don’t get it, use the money and buy a high grade true first and if it is going to take off then it’s a win, but if not, it’s still something good to have and not based on movie speck but on its own comic merit, instead of lining others pockets for something that you won’t be able to sell come 2-3 years from now
