Just a heads up. This past week People mentioned Angelina Jolie will be offered a role in the upcoming Eternals film. So it is time to look at some Spec books.
From People:
Angelina Jolie might be getting the superhero treatment.
The 43-year-old actress is in talks to star in the upcoming Marvel film The Eternals, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Reps for the actress and Marvel did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
This would be Jolie’s first foray into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, although not for her first comic book film as she starred in the 2008 action thriller Wanted with James McAvoy.
The rumors state she may be playing Sersi who is a major character in the Eternals. That of course has yet to be confirmed. Regardless, Eternals #3 started heating up a bit. I also noticed this past week Strange Tales #109 (first Circe) has pretty much sold out on Ebay. As of writing this, Mycomicshop has none when not that long ago they had a few. Mile High shows zero in their online inventory, where they had some not long ago as well. I could only find one copy on Amazon, which ironically shows Mile High as the seller, so they may or may not even have that one in stock. Newkadia has a lower grade for about $50 with no discount because it is a new arrival.
I bring this up because Sersi in the comics claims she was the very same Circe from Greek Mythology. More rumors have circulated that the Eternals movie will span thousands of years. If that is the case and the film shows Sersi when she was Circe in ancient Greece this book could gain some serious traction. Strange Tales #109 Circe/Sersi is only shown as a cameo in one panel. I am not going to try and take anything away from Eternals #3 because I do think it is the more important book. However, right now it would seem that Sersi is destined to become a heavy hitter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe which will in turn will probably give her more “air time” in comics which could result in more “street-cred” as a legit collectible in regard to her key comic appearances.
If you don’t have a copy of Strange Tales #109 and can find it at a fair price it may be a good idea to buy it! These days it is getting rare to find a silver age first appearance that is fairly inexpensive that also has a chance to increase dramatically in price because of that first appearance even in cameo.
As always there is a chance the majority of collectors will pass this by but I don’t think most of them really know about this book and I don’t think it shouldn’t be overlooked. Just my opinion.
Thanks for letting me write this Tony! Thanks for your help as well! I did a quick sweep online there is only one copy of Strange Tales #109 that I could find on Ebay right now and the seller is from the UK. Amazon still shows a VG for sale at $150 (A bit pricey). Both MyComicshop and the Milehigh web site still show none for sale. I also checked comiclink. None there either. The lower grade copy on Newkadia’s site is now gone. Search lesser known online sites and local comic shops that sell Silver Age books if interested in getting one of these! Seems people are getting wise to it.
I recently came across a few Eternals books in a collection Ive been picking through. It has Issues 5,6,8-14. All of these are in 9.6 or better. Any recommendations for future spec on any of those issues? I am late to the Eternals party and dont know much about this, from a spec perspective. Any help is appreciated.
If the price is good get them all. High grade Eternals, even non keys will be in demand when that movie hits! #5, 8, 11, 12 and 13 are really good because they all have first appearances that have a good shot at showing up in a movie especially if there are sequels.
I have been doing some research on the issues that are available to me, before I head back to that collection this Saturday. All the issues are priced fairly reasonably at about $12-$25, depending on the issue, and as I said, they are 9.6 or better. I grabbed issue #7 last week. I knew TOAA made his 1st, along with others, in that issue. I paid around $15.
Good purchase! #12 has so many firsts! The higher the grade the better if possible and that one is a beaut! That’s the awesome thing about Eternals vol 1. Only 20 total issues (if you include the annual) with more than half having important first appearances in regard to Eternals cannon. A lot to be established still, but if the Eternals has multiple movies over the next couple of phases it is a good bet we see most of those who were first introduced during Kirby’s run!
I have issue 1.
You are very welcome. Thanks for doing it.
When I mentioned Strange Tales #109 back in my Black Knight spotlight post, there weren’t that many listed then either from what I recall.

Yeah, at most I think I ever saw was eight or nine for sale at any given time. Such a cool Kirby monster cover too!
I love Kirby artwork.
I recently started reading The Eternals as well. I got up to issue #3 but been busy lately. Need to pick up the reading cause I wanted to be more familiar with them before the movie gets made.
I’ve got a #1 it’s maybe a 6.0 to a 7.0. I’m still trying to decide if I should get it graded or not.
