Phoenix Fan Fusion 2019 (formerly Phoenix Comicon) starts with a preview night on Thursday, May 23rd and CHU will be there! We have been covering this large Phoenix Con for several years, they hit all the marks between celebrities, artists, creators, and comics vendors. And at $85 for a full 4 day pass, the price is reasonable for the vast amount of entertainment.
Their celeb lineup is one of the best I have seen in years, some highlights: Jeff Goldblum, Billy Dee Williams, Ray Park (Darth Maul), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jamie Lannister GOT), Elijah Wood, Summer Glau, John Barrowman, Robin Lord Taylor (Penguin – Gotham), Paul Reubens, Adam Savage, and from the Star Trek Bridge – George Takei, Nichelle Nichols, and Walter Koenig.
The creators and artists list is massive as always, here is a taste: Kevin Eastman, Roy Thomas, Brian Pulido, Billy Tucci, Dan Mendoza, Darick Roberston, Dennis O’Neil, Jay Fotos, Joel Gomez, Josh Blaylock, Neal Adams, and Marat Mychaels.
Phoenix Fan Fusion Exclusives to look out for:
Neal Adam will have a series of limited edition books and fine art prints. Here are some exclusive covers for Detective Comics 1000:
Detective 1000 Neal Adams Continuity Metal Cover Variant
Detective Comics 1000, Neal Adams Store “Villains” Variant
Haunting of Hill House is one of my favorite horror shows on Netflix, it was fantastic. Jay Fotos will have a print of the original production design of Bent Neck Lady by creature FX designers Mark Kidwell and Jay Fotos from Robert Kurtzman MUFX. The print will also be signed by them.
Patriotika 3 (Ronald Zabala / Mount Olympus Comics) Lucio Parrillo Cover. Another gorgeous cover by Parrillo!
The Coffin Comics/Lady Death booth will have a ton of hot exclusives that are highly sought after at Phoenix Fan Fusion and go fast. Coffin Comics will have several very limited covers. Additionally they will have several mystery editions that will be revealed at the show plus an “Instant Edition” with a cover illustrated live by Monte Moore. Here are just a few:
Lady Death: Chaos Rules #1 – Lady Satan Edition; Cover by Steven Butler
Lady Death: Hot Shots #1 – Naughty Jeweled Edition; Cover by Collette Turner
Lady Death: Nightmare Symphony #1 – Fusion Edition; Cover by Mike DeBalfo
La Muerta: Descent #1 – Work In Progress Edition; Cover by Joel Gomez. This limited to 50 exclusive is interesting, the description says it’s not finished and to “head over to Joel Gomez’s Artist Alley table #??? and he will finish it for you!”
DvsM:1975: Pulp Edition by Gary Hodges. Cool alien abduction cover and I love to discover new indie stuff.
PHXFF has an SDCC-like quality in the sheer amount of panels. The Phoenix Convention Center has many room for panels, several are starting every 30 minutes and they run from 10am to Midnight. No shortage of things to do, I normally find myself having very FULL days at this show with very little down time.
Highly recommend if you can make it down. If you are there and recognize me from previous articles or see the CHU shirt, come say hi!! https://phoenixfanfusion.com/
I am VERY excited for Phoenix Fan Fusion. I have a 4 day pass and will probably make it to just Sat and Sun. Where will you all be hanging out at?
