  1. Happy New Year CHU family!

Here is a link to last years:

    https://comicsheatingup.net/2019/01/04/comicsheatingup-net-year-in-review-2018/

I was the #4 commentator last year (behind JayClue), with a goal of being #1. As the stats show beating out the site organizers is no easy task, but I did leave JayClue in the dust! So progress there. Maybe if forum stats counted here I’d have faired better.

And since I made approximately 8% of the total comments in CHU, I expect 8% of the net profit share. ?

Some other note worthy stats when comparing back to this time in 2018:

716,403 more views than last year (up 26%, last years increase was 10%)

28,376 more unique visitors than last year (up 9%)

Despite these increases, there were 3053 LESS comments made than in 2018 (a drop of 17%). But before every hits the panic button, remember the forums are likely a big part of that as pointed discussion topics that used to be here wound up as forum threads.

      1. That’s why I framed it as “profit.” I only want a share of the good, not the bad!

Do you have to file any federal tax paperwork as part of running this site so long as it’s non-profit? Wondering with all the adds covering essential bills to keep the lights on how that works.

        1. Ah that’s true about using the word “profit”…. Anthony doesn’t share profits, he even makes me pay to work for him… he’s a jerk, I should start my own site. 🙂

Ads with Google (or others) are usually reported via EIN or SSN, depending it’s an individual or business when you signup to use their services, etc. So yes, they report earnings and since CHU is non-profit, it’s all taxable.

Does Anthony pay his taxes on his reported income? I certainly hope so.. or the tax man a cometh one day!!! 🙂

But for anyone who thinks CHU is rolling in the money, think twice! 4 million views a year means hosting costs more per month. The amount of time, effort and own money put into this site is not cheap either. The best way to support CHU is contribute and perhaps disable your ad blockers if you got them enabled. We strive to try and make sure the ads are not annoying and interfere with the site experience. It’s not asking much for free info I think.

    1. So just to add on to this since we did introduce the forums, here are some of it’s stats:

Posts = 8028 (so tack that on the total of comments)

So another reason the comments went down besides the forums, we did a lot of the giveaways on the forums, which is always a big % of comments.

The total page views on the forums for 2019 was: 303994

So CHU theoretically had 3,421,465 total views when you take into account the forums.

    2. I was in the top 5 last year, but around May or June I just got tired of going to a bunch of shops and spec’ing in general. I have cut way back on my pre-orders which are for spec and the only shop I frequent is my main shop for my pullbox which is for the PC. At least I’m still in the top 10.

I hope this site and the Forums keep getting bigger in 2020. I cut out all other comic spec’ / news sites a long time ago, nothing against them but I’m just sticking with CHU. I hope they all have a good year.

      HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!! To everyone.

  2. As for my goals…#1 was actually fulfilled yesterday morning….and that was driving again (after having Achilles’ tendon surgery 2 months ago). No running/jumping for a few more months….so if you see me outside your lcs Wednesday mornings you’ll likely beat me out to that hot comic on the shelves once then gate opens ?.

My #2 goal is to get my daughter to actually play with her toys in her room. She turns 8 in a few months and does not like to be alone…so she brings all her toys downstairs to the living and spreads out her mess…then the dog comes in amd chews on them and they get throw out and she cries, rinse and repeat. So that’s gotta stop…mostly because I’m tired of her making messes in the living room and her keeping the dog out of parts of the house she should be free to roam.

#3, is to transform out basement into a more friendly/safe place to play. Related to #2 in that a lot of my son and daughters toys are already down there and It’s a big space they can spread out. Right now it’s just storage…I’ll have to make sure they don’t get into my collectible transformers, Lego’s and comics though. I also want my treadmill down there so I can get back to healthy instead of this limping blob since i got injured back 5 months ago.

#4, Inventory my comics, and Move comic inventory. I’m actually thinking I’m going to take it down a notch this year and buy only a few select titles and try to get rid of inventory I don’t “love”…even if it means moving stuff at pennies on the dollar. Aside from a few must haves and grails, I have want i feel I must own in my lifetime. I think I could fill about 20 short boxes, But I know if someone offers me 1/2 cover price for all my comics I could part with now I could probably whittle it down to four short boxes of graded comics and 3-4 short boxes of raws. So I may up my eBay listings and try to move stock just to move it. I’ll post something (inventory list) on the forums when I get to it.

#5, acquire more silver/bronze beauties. Last year I acquired my first silver age key in Fantastic Four 49, and some other desired moderns as well (ultimate Fallout 4, Batman Beyond #1 to name a couple). 2017 I acquired Batman 223 and 251. I’d like to look back and see a couple more silver or early bronze in my collection…ideally funded from the sales of clears inventory. Right now eyeing low/mid grade Silver Surfer #4, Amazing Spider-Man 39 and Thor 337. GI Joe #1 (Marvel) is also on my list for the right price. Otherwise no more modern “keys” unless I stumble upon a price that i can’t turn down.

I think those are my achievable goals for 2020. Some comic some lifestyle. Most important at he end is a happy & healthy family…that’s a win every time if you can look back and say that was achieved!

    Laters!

    1. Nice goals. You’re #4 I did myself a year or so back.. best decision ever. It was almost like I chose quality over quantity.

#5 has been on my goal list for quite some time but started with more of the characters I love, like Moon Knight was my big one last year. Next up I think is Ghost Rider.

My goal outside of comics though is to just keep on breathing… I’m not a big goal setter when it comes to life itself. I just keep on living, that’s the goal. 😉

    2. To your #2 Goal : Dont feel bad, my Son is only 15 months and his toys are just as spread out as anyone else 🙂 We open the Rice container and wonder how his Letter Magnet got in there. As for her anxiety, let me know how you deal with that. We are having similar issues with the boy.. he throws a fit when one of us leaves the room.

As for me , My goal has and always will be To rule the world ! and if I cant do that then maybe contribute somehow to the Speculating community.

  3. Happy New Year! My goal is to recover from the surgery I had last month! Had complications that kept me in isolation well past Christmas. Those are gone now and I am finally home! Very thankful! Hopefully all the CHU members have a wonderful, safe new year! God bless!!!

      1. Yeah, developed c-diff and illus (not sure about spelling) South Park made fun of C-diff in an episode. It is a bacterial infection but mine didn’t require a fecal transplant. Thankful for that.C-diff can spread so I had to stay in my room. Illius is when you stop digesting. Didn’t eat for a week. Sucked big time but got through it all and on my way to recovery!

  4. Tec 359 in a 6.0 or better. That is my comic goal. Personal goal is to quit smoking (again) and to start eating better. That should be easy because my current diet resembles that of a ten year old childs. Happy new year, fellow CHU readers and contributors!!!
