Poyo’s FOC Highlight Book for 1/27/2020

Another FOC Monday is upon us comic book collectors. FOC is the last chance to put in your orders with your comic shops and more than likely get at a discount for pre-ordering.

This week I couldn’t keep it at just 1 title selection.

The first pick is BANG! #1 from Dark Horse, a new book out from Matt Kindt and art by Torres.

A best-of-the-best secret agent with memories he couldn’t possibly possess, a mystery writer in her 60s who spends her retirement solving crimes, a man of action with mysterious drugs that keep him ahead of a constant string of targeted disasters, a seemingly omnipotent terrorist organization that might be behind it all . . .And they’re all connected to one man: a science-fiction author with more information than seems possible, whose books may hold the key to either saving reality or destroying it. A mind-bending story that ties in with past Kindt works (Revolver).Action, mystery, and altered reality!

There’s a Kindt variant as well. I love Kindt’s writing but his art is hit or miss. I don’t think this is one of his better works, but you know, practice makes perfect right?

My next selection is Godkillers #1. Got a hold of advanced preview. It’s a pretty good read.

Abdul Alhazred is an Arab-American folklore professor-turned-soldier whose fear of death stems from uncertainty about the existence of an afterlife. Then he joins THE GODKILLERS, a special forces unit tasked with ?ghting insurgents who use mythological creatures as weapons of mass destruction. Now that he knows that the supernatural exists, he’ll have to decide which is worse – death or the nightmarish monsters he thought were mere legends.

From writer Mark Sable (Grounded, Fearless, Supergirl) and newcomer artist Maan House, THE GODKILLERS is a monster story for the modern age.

There is also a 15 Copy Incentive Bradstreet Variant. But be wary, Diamond claims this (Retailers ordering 15 or more copies of Godkillers #1 by FOC may order 1 free Bradstreet variant and can order up to 2 more copies at 4.99 each). So, not a true 1:15 variant if shops can order additional copies. If every shop that orders 15 gets their free copy and buys 2 more, it’s now a 1:5 variant at the shop, unless of course they buy more regular covers.

There’s also a pretty graphic crazy looking Cover A from Haun as well for this series for issue #2. Not on FOC, just left it up here since I accidentally copied this as the variant for #1 instead of the Bradstreet.

Honorable mention goes to Plunge #1, a new Joe Hill book. Lots of story telling which I think will setup for an even better read I think as the story progresses.

That’s all this week. If these picks heat up, great but these picks are more for the read and entertainment I think. Being new series, there’s always potential if they get optioned, etc.
