February Previews 2020 – DC and Black Label Spotlight Books

Previews gives us a glimpse of what’s to come. Here’s the spotlight of new books coming out of February Previews for DC and Black Label books that we are looking forward to, either on the spec level, read level or just gorgeous cover art level.

Once again, not a whole lot coming out for DC. Seems mostly reader issues for a lot of the ongoing titles. Here’s a few we’re looking forward to.

The creepy covers alone got me buying these Hillhouse title.

Daphne Byrne #4 (of 6)

Daphne has found an ally in Mr. Brooke, a skeptic and expert on the manipulations of Spiritualism.

But when a more immediate danger threatens her life, she’ll learn something very surprising about Brother-the powerful spirit she thought had her best interests at heart…

These next two are only because of the recent Punchline character making her debut in Batman #89. Going to be interesting to see how this new gal plays out… along with also The Designer, who’s now been overshadowed by the hype around Punchline.

Batman #92

The greatest heist in history is underway in Gotham City, courtesy of the mysterious crimemaster known as the Designer!

Batman knows what he needs to do, but in order to stop the plot, he must first escape the most ingenious death trap the Riddler has ever devised!

Batman #93

Batman faces off with the Designer as ‘Their Dark Designs’ reaches its epic climax! In the last year, Batman has lost more than he could have imagined, and now he faces a cost so dear it will change the course of his life.

And there is worse on the horizon. In the midst of all the horror, he can feel the drumbeat of battle. ‘Joker War’ is coming, and Gotham City will never be the same.

This next one continues the Punchline hype where supposedly DC will be providing us an origin story. But this seems like the perfect future drek book as well. So many variant covers, high price tag, likely huge print run. Buy the cover you like most or wait for one of those 75% off sales.

Joker 80th Anniversary 100 Page Super Spectacular #1

The Clown Prince of Crime celebrates 80 years of chaos! The Joker has been the greatest villain in comics since his debut and to celebrate we have a who’s who of comics’ finest talent giving the Harlequin of Hate the birthday roast he deserves. T

he stories feature a range of terror and anarchy, showing how the Joker has impacted Gotham City from the police to Arkham Asylum, from the local underworld to the Dark Knight and his allies!

Make sure to RSVP to this birthday bash-you wouldn’t want to wake up with a Joker Fish on your doorstep, would you?

Picked only because of the cover art. Just a slick looking regular cover if you ask me. Is anyone reading this title? I have yet to pick up and read. It’s probably a trade or HC pickup for me if the story is recommended.

Joker Harley Criminal Sanity #4 (of 9)

When murder is your art, it’s not enough to leave behind a body-the only true satisfaction lies in creating a display worthy of your genius.

But elaborate crime scenes also lend themselves to analysis. While the GCPD might not find all the clues, forensic psychiatrist and profiler Harley Quinn is getting closer to the truth…and the killer.

Never thought I’d be picking a Lois Lane book but this one’s got my interest due to the new character that saw some heat in this title starting with issue #7 and most taking notice in issue #8.

Lois Lane #10 (of 12)

Armed with new information about the assassin stalking her, Lois goes on the offensive, while Renee struggles with wielding what may be the most powerful weapon of them all: the truth.

This last pick is just for the cover art. Very slick looking artwork, looks like it should be a poster. Too bad it’s a card stock cover. That’s the only thing that would prevent me from possibly picking up.

Wonder Woman #756 (Card Stock Mikel Janin Variant)

With Wonder Woman down, the Four Horsewomen are victorious-and now they set their sights on the rest of the Amazons!

Can anyone stop Warmaster from delivering ultimate vengeance upon Wonder Woman’s family?

  1. I would like to order Joker 80th Anniversary 100 Page Super Spectacular #1 but i havent the faintest clue what cover to go for. anyone got any insight on what may hold gain some value? or since this is most likely to be aa heavily printed issue, do i just grab what looks best to me?

    1. I could be wrong, but I think it mostly contains reprinted material. Combine that with the projected high print run and it’s hard to say it will hold, let alone gain value. I’d would just buy my favorite cover.
