Previews gives us a glimpse of what’s to come. Here’s the spotlight for new books (and some trade/hardcovers/omnibuses) coming out of January for everything else that isn’t Marvel. You can see the Marvel Highlights here!
Dark Horse Books
Monsters Are My Business (And Business is Bloody) #1 is a new Cullen Bunn book, which are usually entertaining and good pickups. I hope this stays as a single cover issue #1 type of series.
Operation Sunshine: Already Dead #1 might be fun. Unlike the Bunn title, this one has a few variants available.
Operation Sunshine: Already Dead #1 (Martin Simmonds Variant Cover)
Operation Sunshine: Already Dead #1 (Tyler Jenkins Variant Cover)
Operation Sunshine: Already Dead #1 (Tony Fleecs Variant Cover)
Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures–Saber for Hire #1 is a new Star Wars title. Anything could happen with Star Wars and the potential spec within so definitely worth checking out.
Image Comics
Feral #1 (Cover A – Forstner & Fleecs) is from the Stray Dogs creators, this time with cats. Probably won’t have the same spec success Stray Dogs had but I’m sure most will be onboard who were onboard with Stray Dogs. Lots of variants, Image really pumping these out to boost sales numbers.
Feral #1 (Cover B – Forstner & Fleecs)
Feral #1 (Cover C – Blank Sketch Cover)
Feral #1 (Cover D – (Retailer 10 Copy Incentive Variant) Forstner & Fleecs)
Feral #1 (Cover E – (Retailer 25 Copy Incentive Variant) Cook)
Feral #1 (Cover F – (Retailer 50 Copy Incentive Variant) Forstner & Fleecs)
Feral #1 (Cover G – (Retailer 100 Copy Incentive Variant) Fleecs & Forstner)
Napalm Lullaby #1 (Cover A – Bengal) is a new Remender title, which usually results in a decent read and sometimes, might heat up if the interest spills over creating more demand. It’s been less seldom lately now with Remender books.
Lots of ratio variants though… and multiple 10 copy, 25 copy variants…
Napalm Lullaby #1 (Cover B – Johnson)
Napalm Lullaby #1 (Cover C – (Retailer 10 Copy Incentive Variant) Jones)
Napalm Lullaby #1 (Cover D – (Retailer 10 Copy Incentive Variant) Paquette)
Napalm Lullaby #1 (Cover E – (Retailer 20 Copy Incentive Variant) Dekal)
Napalm Lullaby #1 (Cover F – (Retailer 25 Copy Incentive Variant) Robinson)
Napalm Lullaby #1 (Cover G – (Retailer 25 Copy Incentive Variant) Go)
Napalm Lullaby #1 (Cover H – (Retailer 50 Copy Incentive Variant) Harren)
Under York #1 (of 6) is a pick in hopes the story is good but mostly because I like Mirka Andolfo’s art. And unlike a lot of the Image titles, this one only has one cover.
Indies
Animal Warriors of the Kingdom #1 (of 5) (Cover A – Prastha) looks like it might be a entertaining read. I usually dig this style of art and the Gorillaz Homage variant is pretty cool too.
Animal Warriors of the Kingdom #1 (of 5) (Cover B – Blood Brother)
Bristlemouth Cove Horror #1 (of 4) will likely be overlooked and under ordered by a lot of shops. I really like these truly small independent comics, allowing the creators full freedom with their work and at times it’s a total surprise when you pick up a great story with cool art.
I don’t read Scout books that often anymore as most don’t seem to draw me in but Choco Leche #1 (Cover A – Lee Harris) might change that. Looks like fun! I hope…
Choco Leche #1 (Cover B – Lee Harris)
Little Black Book #1 (of 4) (Cover A – Francavilla) got my attention because I’m a sucker for westerns. Plus it’s a bonus Francavilla regular cover.
Little Black Book #1 (of 4) (Cover B – Johnson)
Little Black Book #1 (of 4) (Cover C – Movie Poster Homage)
Little Black Book #1 (of 4) (Cover D – (Retailer 15 Copy Incentive Variant))
Mans Best #1 (of 5) (Cover A – Lonergan) got my attention from the regular cover art. Love this style, just hope the story is as good.
Mans Best #1 (of 5) (Cover B – Variant) Forstner
Mans Best #1 (of 5) (Cover F – Foc Reveal Variant)
Mans Best #1 (of 5) (Cover C – (Retailer 10 Copy Incentive Variant) Frany)
Mans Best #1 (of 5) (Cover D – (Retailer 25 Copy Incentive Variant))
Mans Best #1 (of 5) (Cover E – (Retailer 50 Copy Incentive Variant) Nguyen)
Mans Best #1 (of 5) (Cover G – Unlockable Lonergan)
The First Americans #1 (of 8) is a new title about the early days after the ice age and early tribes that made their way to America. I like these types of books and stories so definitely checking this one out.
Snyder and Francavilla teaming up for White Boat #1 (Cover A – Francavilla). I love when Francavilla does interior artwork so I’m all down for this one, just hope Snyder brings his A game to the story telling.
White Boat #1 Cover B
White Boat #1 (Cover C – (Retailer 10 Copy Incentive Variant))
White Boat #1 (Cover D – (Retailer 25 Copy Incentive Variant))
White Boat #1 (Cover E – (Retailer 50 Copy Incentive Variant))
I wish there was a kick ass gritty noir style Judge Dredd comic book ongoing series. But I settle for trades now for the most part so Judge Dredd a Penitent Man TPB got my attention to fulfill my Judge Dredd needs as I’m a fan.
I really enjoy Nazi war era stories so Replay Memoir of an Uprooted Family GN has my attention on the to check out list of graphic novels.
DC Comics
Detective Comics #1083 (Cover C – Kelley Jones Card Stock Variant) is a nice Jones cover. Simplicity at it’s best!
Love this cover for Green Arrow #10 (of 12) (Cover B – Jorge Fornes Card Stock Variant). Total Aja style…
