Wool The Movie

One of the surprise releases from last week was Wool #1. It had the makings of a hit comic right out of the gate, low print run, loyal fan base, small publisher. Copies of Wool #1 were put up on eBay and sold quickly for multiple times cover price. Those who bought instead of sold may have won the round on this one.
While IMDB does not show much, except that a movie is in production, there are several stories on the internet worth checking out.
First, Wikipedia has a quick blurb at the top of the Wool (Silo) page stating that ” Film rights to the story have been sold to 20th Century Fox director Ridley Scott and Steve Zaillian expressed interest in the film adaptation.”
That is the smoke, the fire comes from Scified.com who stated “Ridley Scott will begin casting for his upcoming film adaptation of the Hugh Howey ‘Wool’ novels in early 2014, with the hope of having actors lined up for the sci-fi film next year.”>
The Wall Street Journal did a piece on the writer Hugh Howey where they briefly talk about the movie deal.
So while it might make sense (and dollars) to sell copies of Wool #1 right off the bat, it might be a good long term play to hold copies as well.

  1. Wow. The one issue I couldn’t find at my lcs and it goes to a movie deal. Thanks for the tip Tony. I’ll be searching the other shops for this issue.

  2. Nice. Bought three that arrived yesterday. Pretty much flawless shape. Was about to put them online today. I think I’ll wait. Might submit them to CBCC. My father in law just received a Manifest Destiny Sketch variant 9.9 from them.

  3. None of my local shops had this one, two didn’t even bother ordering it which surprised me, one of them usually always orders the ultra rare hard to find comics, they’re big on indie comics and local publishers as well.

  4. I went hard on this one. The books are record setting in terms of self publishing; I gambled the comic would be hot. Only snagged one copy of cover B, but preordered 10 of A.

    1. this was my second successful ebay flip..Im going to see if i can find more..i was offered a VG hulk 271 for 4 copies

      1. I picked up a NM Hulk #271 a couple months back for about $147.50.. I think I got a steal, my own grading puts it at at least 9.6 on a good day, which would put it at around $600-$800 if CGC agreed with me from some sales I’ve seen.. 😉

  5. Bout one copy of wool wed. Read the news went back 15 minutes before closing today and there were two copies of cover A and and copy of cover B left. Kinda excited.
