Poyo’s Spec & Picks for September 28th, 2022

Welcome to this weeks spec. This is where we pick the winners each week we (or shall I say myself) think will be spec worthy, a great read or just cool looking art on the cover.

Marvel Picks

Star Wars Doctor Aphra #24 has a new Sith character making an appearance. Issues already selling out online. You can still find the Sprouse Variant available. Even copies on eBay pre-sales are drying up fast. This will likely be the winner this week spec wise.

There’s another likely winner this week from Marvel with Marvel Voices Community #1. Already seeing prices jump on eBay for this design variant. This and Doctor Aphra news has been discussed over on our forums.

If you haven’t joined the forums, perhaps you should. There’s categories that only logged in members and higher trust level members can see. All it takes is participation to gain trust. We never charge for information here at CHU.

DC Picks

DC Horror Presents Sgt Rock vs The Army Of The Dead #1 – I love all things World War so this is a must for me.

Batman The Audio Adventures #1  – Love this old school radio story telling type of concept. This would be better if they actually did what sounded like an old school radio show you could listen along to while reading.

Batman One Bad Day: Riddler was an awesome read. I highly recommend this one. There’s a second printing for this one (which also has a ratio 1:25 variant).

Indie and Small Publisher Picks

The Roadie #1 is a new book from Tim Seeley. I really enjoyed Revival but never got into Hack/Slash but I’ll give this one a go.

Old Dog #1 is a new Shalvey title from Image. I’ve been enjoying his writing, might even like it more than his artwork.

For fans of Bitter Root, you’ll probably enjoy Flawed #1 by Chuck Brown.

The hit new series Eight Billion Genies continues with Issue #5 this week. I bet we’ll see a second printing of this issue. I’m digging the Tradd Moore variant as well for this one.

Briar #1 could be hit or miss. The retelling with a twist of the old fables and stories can either be great or a complete dud. It’s not often they heat up with spec though, but have seen some surprises in the past.
