So we ran the first 10 Deadpool appearances last night here. Got the question “are people really chasing these books?” Looks like the answer is yes. Someone was obviously paying attention because Bleeding Cool ran the following story today:
Speculator Corner: X-Force #1 Bagged With Deadpool Card. Really?.
Dear me no… another one to go back issue bin diving for. In this case, the local landfill may also prove fortuitous.
When Marvel relaunched New Mutants as X-Force #1with Rob Liefeld, they did so by bagging the comic with one of five trading cards, encouraging people to buy all five, plus one to open and read. And they sold five million of the bastards.
So that’s one million of each trading card variant.
And just as X-Force #2and its second appearance of Deadpool is getting bizarre speculator behaviour considering how many were printed, so are X-Force #1
And so what was once a fifty cent book, rose to two dollars… then to four… and then to eight.

Yup.
I went to a local shop today, plenty of X-Force #1 available, still bagged but no Deadpool cards and all were pretty bad shape. I passed despite them all being about $2 comics.
Hit up a shop this weekend to see if I could score any #2’s (I have one copy I picked up when the series initially came out). Looked in the bins, no luck. As I was checking out, I noticed 2 copies were sitting in a stack by the register, looking like they had just been pulled from the bins. They wanted $20 for one and $30 for the other. I passed.
Go back and check for #11. This issue is really popping as well.
I flipped through what they had and it appeared they did have 3-20, running about $3.50 each. I’ll have to get back down there soon!
