Poyo's Picks of the Week for March 1, 2017
It’s that time again, each week we rush off to our local comic shops (well, most of us as I know a lot don’t have local shops near by so they do their order’in online) to snag our monthly pulls to read, snag the books we think can net us some more money so we can just do it all over again next week. Buy, Read, Read and Comment on CHU, Sell, Repeat.. it’s a rinse, recycle and repeat for most of us I’m sure.
So, let’s do the same thing we did last week.. but with different books. Continue reading “Poyo's Picks of the Week for March 1, 2017”

One to Watch: Detective Comics #953 Rafael Albuquerque Variant (or that time Batwoman was stabbed in the boob)
I do not think that Rafael Albuquerque is a bad person. He just likes to draw Bat-Women in compromised, injured positions. First it was the recalled Batgirl cover, you remember it, the one with the Joker standing behind her with the gun to the back of her head. It was torn down by “Social Justice Warriors” who didn’t like the cover. This time, for Detective #953 Variant, no Joker, and Batwoman is worse for the wear than Batgirl was. Continue reading “One to Watch: Detective Comics #953 Rafael Albuquerque Variant (or that time Batwoman was stabbed in the boob)”

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Season 5 Finale Drops Veiled "Racy" Reference
While pulling up with the boys this morning to watch cartoons, we knew we couldn’t miss the season finale for Nickelodeon’s TMNT. What we didn’t expect was a racy, more adult, joke laced in the children’s cartoon. Mind you, the kids didn’t know why I was laughing, rewinding, and then breaking out my cell phone to record it. With $1 and $1.99 Cover Price Comics, Alterna is Bringing Back News Print Comics
Now entering their 11th year, Alterna is rolling out a single issue lineup that will feature throwback style covers, a new logo, bi-monthly release schedules, prices between $1.00 to $1.99 an issue, and the nostalgic feel of newsprint.
Alterna publisher Peter Simeti explains, “When I fell in love with comics, it was an entire experience: the stories, the imagery, and the paper. There’s a whole generation of comic book creators and readers that had the same exact experience. I’ve talked to hundreds of people over the years and the consensus was all the same – comic books just don’t feel like comic books anymore. The smell and feel of the pages is something that no longer occurs on the new comic book day release wall, yet it’s prevalent in back issue bins across the country. Our goal is to create comic books that “feel” like they came straight out of yesteryear but with stories and art that appeals to readers of all generations.” Continue reading “With $1 and $1.99 Cover Price Comics, Alterna is Bringing Back News Print Comics”
