August Previews for Small Publisher Books

We have the big two, we have the indies and then there’s the in-between. The publishers who are not necessarily small but still have a small market share from the big publishers.

Let’s see some spotlight books coming down the pipeline from the small publishers out of August Previews.

Dark Horse

Count Crowley: Reluctant Midnight Monster Hunter #1

Aspiring reporter Jerri Bartman is furious when she’s demoted to hosting the nightly Creature Feature at her small-town TV station.

But Jerri quickly learns that there is more to horror hosting than just introducing bad B-movies. Her first night in the costume of her missing predecessor, Count Crowley, finds her face to face with a living, breathing . . . werewolf. Or was she just that drunk?

Featuring the dynamic creative team of David Dastmalchian and Lukas Ketner!

The perfect comic for the Halloween season!

Grendel: Devil’s Odyssey #1

All-new Grendel from Matt Wagner! Grendel Prime searches the stars for a new home for mankind, and Matt Wagner returns to his darkest creation! As civilization comes to an end on Earth, the final Grendel Khan gives Grendel Prime a new directive: Find a perfect planet to be the new home for the human race. But will the deadly and relentless paladin ultimately save humanity . . . or destroy it? Grendel Prime continues the legacy in a space adventure!

Sci-fi, fantasy, and horror combine.

Ruby Falls #1

Kill Time, Till Time Kills You! Ruby Falls is a sleepy town. But sleep brings nightmares, and Lana is about to wake up in the middle of her hometown’s biggest secret: the ”disappearance” of infamously progressive Betty Gallagher during the mobster-ruled heyday of the old mining town.

When details of the cold-case murder start to come out through her grandmother Clara’s foggy, dementia-jumbled memories, Lana becomes obsessed with cracking the case, even if it splinters the peaceful town–and endangers everything she loves.

From Ann Nocenti ( The Seeds, Daredevil ) and rising talent Flavia Biondi (Italian artist of La Generazione making her American comics debut) comes Ruby Falls : a neo-noir tale of love, memory, and murder mysteriously woven through three generations of women, and hinging on their individual, intertwined fights for freedom.

Spell on Wheels: Just to Get to You #1

The trio of Witches from Spell on Wheels return in this follow up cross country series!

Andy, Claire, and Jolene find themselves back on the road when a dark presence from out west possesses Claire. As they follow the I-10 towards danger unknown, the group grapples with phantoms, family drama, cryptids, and crushes. Kate Leth ( Patsy Walker, A.K.A. Hellcat ), Megan Levens ( Star Trek: Boldly Go ), and Marissa Louise ( Hex Wives , Grumble ) bring you another chapter in the Spell on Wheels saga!

  1. Money Shot #1 from Vault is the one I am most looking forward to

And I got my eye on I Make Boys Cry but not sure how this White Widow stuff is going to play out

    1. I almost mentioned I Make Boys Cry but I think the White Widow stuff is come and gone for speculation. I can only see these attracting those who want those glittery big boobed girl covers..

  2. No one can call themselves comic book fans without a few big boobed girl covers in their collection!!

Definitely going to pick up the main cover of I Make Boys Cry because it’s lush . Probably pass on the expensive variants
