Last of Us American Dreams has been the surprise hit of a slow May
Last of Us American Dreams has been the surprise hit of a slow May-June selling period. Prices remain fairly high, as there was a tiny print run on the book. Considering how well the video game was received, and rated by critics, the book was a natural to take off. Below is an overview of prices for the comic:
All issues:
Last of Us American Dreams #1 has been selling extremly well.
Last of Us American Dreams #1 is selling for $20 to $30 on average.
Even #1 Second Print, is commanding a premium, mostly due to the small print run of the first print.
Last of Us American Dreams #1 2nd Print is selling for around $9.99 on Average.
The second issue is a strong seller as well.
Last of Us American Dreams #2 is going for $17 to $23.
The third issue just came out and is selling at a premium.
Last of Us American Dreams #3 averaging $9.99 for the newly released issue.

Comic book secondary market place sees sales down turn in May
Interesting article From the Examiner.com:
The secondary market place for comic books, primarily eBay and Amazon, was thriving in the first half of 2013. New comics would hit the shelves and would sell for multiples of cover price. People who were not normally sellers on the two market places were placing books for sale and making serious profit. Message boards were on fire with tips on the latest books that were hitting $20 sale prices on new comic day, Wednesday’s in the U.S. That was until mid-May, when sales for many sellers fell off 70-90% according to many forum posts.

Diamond Comics Advanced Reorder list 6/21/13
Sorry for getting this out late.
One way to tell what comic has heat to it is seeing what retailers are ordering. The Diamond Comics Advanced reorder list shows what retailers are increasing their orders on before the books come out. A lot of books on the list tend to be new books retailers are being asked about or second issues that retailers enjoyed success with selling the first issue. So without further ado, this week’s advanced reorders. Continue reading “Diamond Comics Advanced Reorder list 6/21/13”
‘The Strain’ #1 CGC sells for $365.01
Not long ago we noticed an increase inthe selling price on ‘The Strain’ #1, a book that originally was selling for $1 and we were able to find a several copies in shops for quick profit. Then the news came out about it going to the silver screen. Prices popped even further.
Wild Blue Yonder #1 sells out at distributor level before release
IDW announced two sold out books this week, ‘Half Past Danger’ #1 and 2 and ‘Wild Blue Yonder’ #1.
‘Wild Blue Yonder’ had a print run of 12,327 and was sold out before it hit the stands. This does not mean that your local comic shop does not have copies, it means that they cannot reorder first prints after they sell out.
I have store variants and Phantom Variants signed by the creative team for sale if anyone is interested. Email me at apopcomics@gmail.com or hit us up on facebook at www.facebook.com/comicsheatingup for pricing and details.
Half Past Danger #1 and 2 Sells out at distributor level
Looks like IDW had a couple of recent releases that did pretty well. IDW was proud to announce that their book ‘Half Past Danger’ #1 and 2 are sold out at the distributor level and would be going back for a second printing. The second book came out last week. This had previously been one of our picks of the week. The print run on number 1 was fairly small for a new book at only 8,500 copies.
I do have the subscription variant available
if anyone is interested. Discount rates for multiple copies purchased. Email me at apopcomics@gmail.com if interested or hit us up on facebook at www.facebook.com/comicsheatingup
‘Locke and Key’ optioned for movie
Joe Hill’s Locke and Key comic book has been optioned for a movie according to The Hollywood Reporter. The book follows a widow and her three children who move to an old family home controlled by mysterious keys that open doors that have supernatural powers.
The book had previously been optioned for a tv show for Fox but was passed over due to budget restraints and other reasons. The original miniseries already sell at a premium but grab and hold until the news spreads and prices increase further.
‘Think Tank’ Movie in development.
Thanks to Schwaeger for bringing this to my attention yesterday on our Facebook Site.
Rumors are going around the message boards that the fan favorite comic ‘Think Tank’ by Matt Hawkins had been optioned for a movie deal. Now Bleeding Cool is echoing the rumor as well.
Maybe an announcement will come at Image Expo on July 2nd.

Comic Picks of the week 6/19/13
Each Tuesday we pick which books we are speculating on to be the “big” books of the week. This week we have some really interesting picks. Check them out below and let us know what you think:
Superman Unchained #1 3d DC Roadshow Variant sells for $405
So DC is doing their road show to promote their upcoming books, including the new Sandman book. As a promo, they gave out Superman Unchained #1 3d variant. This isn’t like the old school needing glasses 3d from the past, instead thy are using new 3d lenticular technology. This is the same type cover coming up on their villains month books.
Within hours of the book being given out, one copy sold for over $400. If you can sweet talk your local retailer into letting theirs go, or they have one going for a decent price, this one would be worth picking up and flipping.
Six Gun Gorilla sells out in 24 hours
Diamond Comics Advanced Reorder List 6/12/13
I will admit that the past couple of reorder lists have been fairly boring. Not too much for speculators to pick through. The past through weeks have been cock full of Tpbs and hard covers which I usually gloss over or leave out all together. This months is different. The advanced reorder list is what retailers are stocking up on before the issues are released. They may have heard speculation, have had people asking about books, or had the previous issue sell well or sell out.
This weeks list sees some new books (which look to sell out) and major cross over books.
See the list after the bump.

BEST SELLING COMICS in a world without DC and Marvel – report by Terry Hoknes of www.HoknesComics.com
Marvel & DC have always dominated the market and basically you could say “own” the comic industry. So lets analyze the best selling comics WITHOUT any Marvel/DC titles included. This will give us a better perception of how well the other publishers sell and what titles and characters actually compete with Marvel/DC sales numbers. After reading this chart you may have a new appreciation for the smaller publishers who bring a wider and unique variety of titles to our comic shops each week.
MAY 2013 best selling comics chart.
Lets erase the 79 DC and 74 Marvel titles and see what the “other” best selling comics were!
Only 9 comics ranked in the Top 100 and these are the 9 high profile comics of the month that truly had a buzz.
Walking Dead returned back to #1 yet again. Ten Grand #1 from Image had a super strong showing with 2 different regular covers. The power of Star Wars is continually strong as sales hold steady on #5. Regular Show #1 had 6 regular covers which helped print orders making Boom’s biggest selling comic ever. Girl power was strong yet again with My Little Pony #7. The original creator of TMNT returned to the comic after many years creating a “first” of sorts. This boosted sales way up the list. Charismagic had a high print run as it was priced at only $1.00 Image Bounce #1 had decent orders but very small compared to Ten Grand. The hype of the very first Sesame Street comic ever encouraged all retailers to really take a chance on this one based on the 1970 TV series with 5 different regular covers. 6 of the 9 comics ranked high due to being a “first” of sorts.
Only 9 comics made the top 100 but 60 made the top 200 showing that there is a lot of support for indie publishers but mostly in the 10,000 to 20,000 range whereas Marvel/DC average orders are double that.
