One Year Later: Spec Review for 5/24/17

What up CHUllectors!?! Shawn B., the One Year Later Investigator, back with another One Year Later round up, where we take a look at some of the comics that Anthony, Mel, and Poyo specced on one year ago. Their specs turn out to be quick flips, slow burns, straight up misses, straight up winners and on and on. Sometimes they spec with their hearts out of their passion for comics. Sometimes they spec based on data. And sometimes they spec based off the word on the street. Either way, all their specs appeal to a few or many collectors whether it is due to them having similar taste in writing or art, or just an opportunity for a collector to flip a book and make money to “support their habit”. So, this is our weekly chance to look back at how some of our buys from a year ago are doing today. Continue reading “One Year Later: Spec Review for 5/24/17”

One to Watch: Unnatural #1 Manara Variant

This one is an odd one. We talked about Unnatural the other day. This is a more mature title than we usually spotlight. This is the story of Leslie, who is a simple pig girl. She loves sushi, she’s stuck with a job she hates, and she lives under a brutal totalitarian government-one that punishes transgressors for anything deemed ‘unnatural.’ The weirdness of the series comes from the fact it is an Italian title being brought to the US. Italian artist Milo Manara has done the B cover for it and it is definitely one to watch. Continue reading “One to Watch: Unnatural #1 Manara Variant”

Spoilers: Iron Man #600 Farewell to Bendis

Iron Man #600 is in stores today. It is the last marvel issue done by Brian Michael Bendis before he heads over to DC. It also features the return of Tony Stark to the material world. No longer trapped in AI, Tony makes his return to the land of the living. But he is not alone….
Overall, the issue is pretty cool, but artists handling only one or two pages in the book makes it kind of hard to follow along with in places. A lot of plot elements that one has to wonder if Dan Scott will continue or scrap when he takes over. Finally, a pretty cool character mashup at the end.
The spoiled images are redacted. The accompanying text is not. Click the spoiler warnings to see the spoiled images. Continue reading “Spoilers: Iron Man #600 Farewell to Bendis”
