Poyo's Picks of the Week for May 31, 2017

I hope everyone’s Memorial Day was a blast, I know mine was as I once again survived another tandem skydive. I really am thinking about changing careers (or hobby perhaps) since one of the skydivers put it this way, you’ll love your job but be poor as hell. It was a blast though. Total stress reliever, I recommend jumping out of planes to any and everyone.
Back to comics and enough about what I do in my spare time.. So, last week wasn’t too exciting, at least on the spec side of things. Lots of reader books, ongoing title reads that is. The only winner I think was the Seven to Eternity Spawn covers which were kind of scarce in my neck of the woods, one shop didn’t even order any. But this was one that was already selling way above cover in pre-sales on the secondary market. Continue reading “Poyo's Picks of the Week for May 31, 2017”

Cruzzer's Variant Heads-up: Street Fighter Vs. Darkstalkers #2 1:20 Variant

Blind Adam’s Hidden Gems Vol. 52

Greetings to my Comics Heating Up and Awesomesauce families. Thank you all for reading this each and every week. Thank you all for the friendship, encouragement, advice, love, and surport.
Just some random thoughts. Remember, Red Bull is the best drink ever made, and I am drinking it while writing this. That Gotham is an awesome show, loosely based on Batman. That Secret Empire makes no sense McDonalds needs to stop being so damn stingy with its nugget dipping sauces, come on, it is fifty nuggets and you expect one to two sauces to do the job, stop that already. Now, let’s make some with some comics because you can’t teach that. Continue reading “Blind Adam’s Hidden Gems Vol. 52”

Recent Hot Books

Hey CHU! Shawn B. here again. Just did some value adjustments for ComicBookRealm.com and came across a few popular books right now that I wanted to share with everyone. This won’t be a weekly post like the One Year Later one but if people like it, I will try and get one of these out every so often as I am doing value adjustments. I didn’t take the time to see which of these were specced here on CHU. Off the top of my head I think that most were. Besides Heathen #3, most of these have been out for a little while now and are still holding value and being sought after. Continue reading “Recent Hot Books”

One Year Later: 5/25/16 Spec Review

One Year Later Investigator
What up CHU Believers!?! Shawn B. back with another One Year Later round up, where we take a look at some of the comics that Anthony, Mel and Poyo specced on one year ago. Their specs turn out to be quick flips, slow burns, straight up misses, straight up winners and on and on. Sometimes they spec with their hearts out of their passion for comics. Sometimes they spec based on data. And sometimes they spec based off of the word on the street. Either way all of their specs appeal to a few or many collectors whether it is due to them having similar taste in writing or art, or just an opportunity for a collector to flip a book and make money to “support their habit”. So, this is our weekly chance to take a look back at how some of our buys from a year ago are doing today.
With that said…..let’s do this! Continue reading “One Year Later: 5/25/16 Spec Review”

Matt Wagner's Epic 'Mage' Returns to Image

Two comics stand out in my head as all time favorites, and they are both by Matt Wagner, Grendel and Mage. Mage returns this summer with the final chapter of the Kevin Matchstick saga.
Legendary creator and indy-comics pioneer Matt Wagner returns to bring fans the highly anticipated third and final story arc to MAGE from Image Comics this summer. MAGE: THE HERO DENIED will kickoff with the intro-sized issue #0 in July and carry on as a regular, 15-issue series beginning with THE HERO DENIED #1 this August.
