Bi-weekly column and list compiled by comics historian Terry Hoknes of www.HoknesComics.com – hoknes@hotmail.com
This chart is styled like the old classic Wizard Magazine Top 10 Hottest Comic charts that were published every month in the 1990′s.
This list is updated every 2 weeks. This list is compiled from my non-stop research of the current market. I believe these were the most demand and growing in value books this month. This list focuses on all regular edition covers. (Variants are not listed otherwise they would likely dominate the entire list due to instant high prices and calculated small print runs). If you think I have missed any hot MODERN titles/issues please let me know. Here are my picks of what I believe are the hottest comics at this very moment from all sold out releases of MODERN comics online based on back issue sales ABOVE cover price. Five Ghosts Movie? Five Ghosts Tv show?
I love Five Ghosts. I have met and talked to Frank Barbiere. When I saw him on May 3rd, he was hinting at things picking up for he and Chris Mooneyham coming around or before October. I thought he was talking about the book. But then he dropped an elusive bombshell over at the CGC boards. Continue reading “Five Ghosts Movie? Five Ghosts Tv show?”

Help Larime Taylor
Larime Taylor is a friend to this site. He pops in from time to time and comments here. He really is an all around great guy who puts out one of my favorite books, A Voice in the Dark. I have been linking up to Larime’s auctions to help him pay for his move. See, he lives in California and is trying to move to Las Vegas to be closer to family and the cost of living is cheaper. Here, i will let him tell it himself:
I’m disabled comic book creator Larime Taylor, and my disabled wife Sylv and I need to relocate to be closer to family to help with our care. We currently live in the inland desert of California and we’re trying to move to Las Vegas where my family lives. We’ve been living below the poverty line for 14 years now, and while my recently published comic book series is helping a bit, it’s an indie book and sales are low.
Cost of living in Vegas is MUCH cheaper, we’d have immediate family there to help us out with our daily needs, and as a caricature artist I’d have lots of new opportunities in a city full of events and conventions. We just need help getting there. I’m asking for your help in changing our lives and our future.
I was born with a birth defect called Arthrogryposis that leaves me with little use of my arms and legs. I’m in a wheelchair and draw with my mouth. I’ve been living on Social Security since January of 2000. In November of 2013, Top Cow started publishing my comic book series A VOICE IN THE DARK, which I write, draw, tone and letter by mouth. It’s been a critical hit and has a cult following, but it’s not making a lot of money yet. I also do caricatures and portraits by commission.
My wife Sylv is French Canadian, and her health crashed shortly after we got married, becoming house-bound in late 1999 and eventually bed-bound in 2011. She receives NO benefits and I get no extra benefits for her. I’ve been supporting her on what little I get, and as she cannot travel too far (getting her to Vegas will be a challenge as it is) going back to Canada for treatment has never been an option. Again, she has never received any benefits of any kind in the entire time we’ve been married.
She is a disabled artist herself, and paints the covers of my comic
You can donate to Larime’s moving fund at his gofundme fundraiser.

Comics Picks of the week for delivery on 5/14/14
This summer has already started to heat up with the release of Southern Bastards, The Woods, and Nailbiters.
This week is another great week. Each week hundreds of new comics hit the shelves. We give our picks for the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are our picks for delivery on 3/14/14:
The one with the Walking and the Dead:
Walking Dead #127 – You know I cannot resist putting a Walking Dead book in as a must pickup. The series will continue to grow, this is the first issue at the end of a story arch (tpb) and is always a good starting point for new readers. This is the first post-All out War issue. I always buy two copies of The Walking Dead, this one is going to be worth it.
The Marvel one:
The United States of Murder Inc. – Kind of reminds me of Evil Empire. It is Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming from Powers. A brand-new world of crime fiction like you’ve never seen before. In this oversized first issue, you will discover a world in which the families of organized crime never lost their stranglehold on the United States.
The weird indy vibe one for fans of Adventure Time:
Bee and Puppycat #1 – Natasha Allegri is simply amazing. She built up a huge fan following on Tumblr while working on the Adventure Time cartoon, then created Fionna and Cake, and heck, then she created BEE AND PUPPYCAT, the best thing ever!
also
LumberJanes #2 – Girl scouts and supernatural creatures. Best be prepared.
and the overall pick of the week, besides Walking Dead is:
Afterlife with Archie #5 Pepoy Variant – Love cheesecake, these covers do it justice. Grab two, this one could be a quick flip by weekend.
The Haunted #1 (Red 5) Comics Print Run
Remember a few months ago we mentioned this book, and then a few weeks ago we told you about it again. The Haunted #1from Red 5 Comics print run is out and it is tiny. Captain America Winter Soldier Movie Spec
Cleaning up things a bit tonight and ran across this, which was supposed to run 3/20/14. A little late, but looks ahead at the next Captain America Movie after Winter Soldier.
A lot of the books tied in with the new Captain America Winter Soldier movie have priced themselves out of most speculators price range. However Bleeding Cool ran an interesting story tonight.

DC Bombshell covers for June
I like cheesecake, not the dessert kind, but the pin-up style art work that was popular in the 1950’s (and before and honestly, afterwards.) So, even though I am not a DC reader, I will be picking up some of the DC Bombshell variants coming out next month. Continue reading “DC Bombshell covers for June”

THE DAKOIT WEEKLY SPECULATION HITLIST: MAY 6TH 2014
Here is the latest from our friend Dakoit at The Dakoit’s Book Speculation for Fun
Hey Gang,
FCBD was a blast. Waited for a hour to get into one shop, the owner claiming this year was insanity, last year no waits and this year a line-up that spanned up the stairs, into and around the shop! Crazy.
I did manage to grab everything that I wanted except Uber #0 and The Hip-Hop Anthology, due to limits. Although message boards were raving about the over-sized Street Fighter, in my area(s) it was Rocket Raccoon #1 saw heaviest demand. Two LCS were totally tapped out when I got in at 12pm. Kids just couldn’t seem to get enough of RR! In my observation, the second most sought out comic was probably the GoTG issue, and rounding out in 3rd place, was the Mouse Guard Hardcover, which IMO, was a totally remarkable FCBD giveaway.
