EScape from Jesus Island about to get covered on CNN this weekend? Keep you eyes peeled

Well it is about time. We talked about this one a while back and had hoped something like this would occur. We had hoped that Escape from Jesus Island would get some kind of press attention that would stir controversy, that would bring even more demand for this wickedly cool book. Copies of the Phantom Variant had been selling well for $12 upon release and then moved slightly lower to $9. The book only had a print run of 3,000 regular copies and 3,000 Phantoms. Comics Picks of the week part 2 for deliver 1/22/14

I purposefully left a book off my picks of the week this week. That book was DEADLY CLASS #1. I left it off because there are seven different variants for the book, and for an Image #1 that usually means a big print run. In addition to there being a standard A and B cover, there is a Forbidden Planet variant, an Eh! Variant (think Canadian Phantom or Ghost Variant), a Beachballs/Laughing Ogre Cover, Third Eye Comics Variant, and a DCBS Variant. I also left it off because I wanted to Spotlight one of the covers. The cover I picked up and wanted to Spotlight was the sweet looking Third Eye Variant by Harper Jayten. I have done well in the past selling their variants, and do most of my eBay sales on Phantom and Third Eye Variants.
This book has sold out and has been getting solid reviews overall, no matter what the cover, and could have potential, especially on the heels of Rick Remender’s other recent success Black Science.

Manifest Destiny #1 A Comic Heating Up

This was one of our picks of the week several months ago. Manifest Destiny #1 had several things going for it, it was an Image book, A Skybound book, and had a print run of just over 12,000 copies. throw in a variant by Ryan Ottley that may have been 1 50/50 split if retailers got their orders in on time (very small ordering window) and you have a book that had potential to spike. Diamond Comics Advanced Reorder List for 1/16/14

Each week retailers have to have their orders in for comics coming out weeks and months in advance. Sometimes they have enough to cover demand, and sometimes demand shifts, with fans and speculators clamoring for more copies of a book that may be big. This is where the Diamond Comics Advanced reorder list comes in, it is the books shops are going back to order more of before the comics come out. Needless to say, this is good insight into what may become hot. Each week we run the list. Here is this past weeks list: Continue reading “Diamond Comics Advanced Reorder List for 1/16/14”

Detective Comics #27 Selling Well on Secondary Market

I try to stay away from big event books, mostly due to the print runs. In fact, I am off of almost all Marvel and DC books now (partially due to quality vs. price but print runs play a big part.) So I was surprised to see that Detective Comics #27 from Dc’s New 52 line is selling above cover. Sure, the 1 in 100 is killing it at over $150 a copy now (retailers would have to kick out over $400 to get one copy.) Continue reading “Detective Comics #27 Selling Well on Secondary Market”

Comics Picks of the week for 1/15/14 part 2.

So I was sick this week, after my son was sick and it sidelined me from the site, and pretty much everything else. I did do a picks of the week column but only mentioned these next two books in it and wanted to spotlight them a little further because of the coolness factor. Both books are sold out.
