Diamond Comics Advanced Reorder List for 9/28/14

The Diamond Comics Advanced Reorder list is a great speculator tool. It shows what books retailers are going back and getting more copies of before the final order cut off. These are the books that people are talking about. These books could be hot number 1’s, a second issue of a recent hot series, a new story line, reprints of a recent sold out comic, or whatever. These are the books shops are banking on will be big. Continue reading “Diamond Comics Advanced Reorder List for 9/28/14”

Walking Dead Spin-off Characters

News is starting to pop up on the “potential prequel” spin off previously announced. While it would be nice if characters in the show are pulled from the comic, it looks like the characters are new creations. Continue reading “Walking Dead Spin-off Characters”

Bleeding Cool Runs Deadpool spec story on X-Force #1

So we ran the first 10 Deadpool appearances last night here. Got the question “are people really chasing these books?” Looks like the answer is yes. Someone was obviously paying attention because Bleeding Cool ran the following story today:
Speculator Corner: X-Force #1 Bagged With Deadpool Card. Really?.

Dear me no… another one to go back issue bin diving for. In this case, the local landfill may also prove fortuitous.
When Marvel relaunched New Mutants as X-Force #1 with Rob Liefeld, they did so by bagging the comic with one of five trading cards, encouraging people to buy all five, plus one to open and read. And they sold five million of the bastards.
So that’s one million of each trading card variant.
And just as X-Force #2 and its second appearance of Deadpool is getting bizarre speculator behaviour considering how many were printed, so are X-Force #1 copies, still bagged, with a Deadpool trading card.
And so what was once a fifty cent book, rose to two dollars… then to four… and then to eight.
More, much more to come, it seems.

First 10 Deadpool appearances

With the Deadpool movie announced for 2016, it is time to be proactive. Many of the earliest Deadpool appearances are dirt cheap in many stores back issue bins. These books could be great pickups, especially considering how well Rocket Raccoon appearances and Groot appearances have done leading up to and since the Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Most of those books were ones people would not have normally touched, and suddenly they were huge.

Bleeding Cool's Speculators’ Corner: Gotham And Harvey Bullock

Bleeding Cool ran this tonight, of course, we covered it back in March here and here.

The first episode of Gotham airs tonight. Everyone at Bleeding Cool has seen it, and I think it’s great. Mad as a bucket of badgers, closer in tone to Luthor in that respect, but most entertaining.
And while most viewers will be familiar with Batman, Catwoman, the Penguin, even James Gordon, for most – if they didn’t watch the cartoon – Harvey Bullock will be a brand new discovery.
Gotham-EW-cover-Det.-Harvey-Bullock
He first appeared in the Batman comics back in 1974, namely Detective Comics #441, by Archie Goodwin and Howard Chaykin. I guess it must go for a pretty penny?
Not really.
At a peak, $38 for a VF+ copy but you can get a VG copy for less that five dollars. But with Constantine and iZombie prices rocketing, it might be worth checking a few back issue bins to see what you can find….
Of course what DC Comics really want you to buy are the collections of Gotham Central and the collected Gordon Of Gotham, GCPD, Gordon’s Law…. but you never know. If you can pick up enough copies of this comic cheap, you might be able to flip them and buy the collections!
The price of comics can, of course, go down as well as up. And usually do.

Top 100 Hottest Comic Titles during EARLY SEPTEMBER 2014

Bi-weekly column and list compiled by comics historian Terry Hoknes of www.HoknesComics.com – hoknes@hotmail.com
unnamed (1)
This chart is styled like the old classic Wizard Magazine Top 10 Hottest Comic charts that were published every month in the 1990′s.
This list is updated every 2 weeks. This list is compiled from my non-stop research of the current market. I believe these were the most demand and growing in value books this month. This list focuses on all regular edition covers. (Variants are not listed otherwise they would likely dominate the entire list due to instant high prices and calculated small print runs). If you think I have missed any hot MODERN titles/issues please let me know. Here are my picks of what I believe are the hottest comics at this very moment from all sold out releases of MODERN comics online based on back issue sales ABOVE cover price.
