Poyo's Picks for August 16th, 2017

This is the crispy brown edition as I’m crispy, a few shades darker and dry from the beach trip this past weekend. With Tropical Storm Franklin making it’s way into Mexico, we benefited with larger waves, washing more sea shells ashore for the kiddos to gather but we had to be extra careful as the current was stronger, even I had a hard time holding my own out in the surf. But now I’m back and ready for this weeks picks. Continue reading “Poyo's Picks for August 16th, 2017”

Spoilers and Review: Dark Night Metal #1 ROCKS!

Dark Nights Metal #1 is out this coming Wednesday. I can honestly say this is one of the coolest DC books I have read in a while. It is sold out at Diamond already, in advance of being released. Online shops are already selling out, TFAW I am looking at you, and I imagine that the other sites will start to limit them, Midtown I am looking at you. The book focuses on Nth Metal, as the Forge and Casting did before hand, and uses a lot of heavy metal imagery such as the Devil’s Horns regular foil stamped cover or the Pentagram (style) Midnight Release Variant. There are a ton of exclusives too, such as the Midtown Comics Simon Bisley cover, the blank sketch or the Mattina variant over at The Comic Mint, Tim Bradstreet Terrificon Variant, just to name a few. But lets get on with the spoilers. Let’s just say there is a big surprise at the end of the issue wth a massive character return.  Continue reading “Spoilers and Review: Dark Night Metal #1 ROCKS!”

One Year Later: Spec Review for 8/10/16

By Shaun B the One Year Later Investigator
What up CHU!?! Shawn B. back with another One Year Later round up, where we take a look at some of the comics that Anthony, Mel and Poyo specced on one year ago. Their specs turn out to be quick flips, slow burns, straight up misses, straight up winners and on and on. Sometimes they spec with their hearts out of their passion for comics. Sometimes they spec based on data. And sometimes they spec based off the word on the street. Either way, all their specs appeal to a few or many collectors whether it is due to them having similar taste in writing or art, or just an opportunity for a collector to flip a book and make money to “support their habit”. So, this is our weekly chance to look back at how some of our buys from a year ago are doing today. Continue reading “One Year Later: Spec Review for 8/10/16”
