One Year Later: Spec Review for 6/7/17

What up CHUllectors!?! Shawn B. the One Year Later Investigator, back with another One Year Later round up, where we take a look at some of the comics that Anthony, Mel, and Poyo specced on one year ago. Their specs turn out to be quick flips, slow burns, straight up misses, straight up winners and on and on. Sometimes they spec with their hearts out of their passion for comics. Sometimes they spec based on data. And sometimes they spec based off the word on the street. Either way, all their specs appeal to a few or many collectors whether it is due to them having similar taste in writing or art, or just an opportunity for a collector to flip a book and make money to “support their habit”. So, this is our weekly chance to look back at how some of our buys from a year ago are doing today. Continue reading “One Year Later: Spec Review for 6/7/17”

Phoenix Comic Fest 2018 Cosplay Gallery

Cosplayers went all out as usual.  They are always good but this year was on another level. I always try to catch as many of the endless Harley variants as I can. One of my favs is Amber Brite (www.amberbrite.com), a fantastic cosplayer and prop maker.  I regularly see her at conventions. She is super nice, wears an amazing new outfit every day, and should probably be on a Hollywood set with her prop and prosthetic making skills. Met the very charming Ashm0nster (twitch.tv/ashm0nster) who knocked it out of the park with her Junko E cosplay, and I discovered her awesome Twitch channel. Kudos to Cos A Commotion for an incredible GOTG set at their booth, plus taking donations and giving proceeds to Pets for Vets.

Phoenix Comic Fest 2018 Wrap Up

Phoenix Comic Fest (formerly Phoenix Comicon) took place over the Memorial Day weekend.  2017 was a rough year for the event: staffing issues, near shooting incident, and taking on SDCC over the use of ‘comic con’ name. That’s all in the past now and they have revamped the con for 2018 in many ways. Now wristbands are mailed in advance, far more security checkpoints/entrances, and a slew of minor improvements throughout the convention center. Continue reading “Phoenix Comic Fest 2018 Wrap Up”

Attack of the Killer B's: Batgirl #24 Joshua Middleton Variant

The DC B cover program has been awesome. Big name artists providing incredible art for cover price. It got even better recently when DC dropped the logos on the books to be almost non-existent. Joshua Middleton’s Batgirl #23 hit hard and sold well on the secondary market. The image for his cover for Batgirl #24 hit Diamond the other day and looks awesome as well. Check it out below: Continue reading “Attack of the Killer B's: Batgirl #24 Joshua Middleton Variant”

Allow me to make a few points. First of all Supersons #16, Champions #19-20, Batman Beyond #16-20, Captain America #701, and Thor Gates of Valhalla #1 were my reads of the week. The Flash #46-47 are two of my books of the year. Flash war is #awesome sauce. Gotham ended season four in a great way. Can’t wait for the Flash season five. Arrow was great. And Solo was the best Disney star wars movie ever or at least since Force Awakens. Now let’s make some money with some comics because you can’t teach that Continue reading “Blind Adam's Hidden Gems Vol. 81”
