Back in the 80’s, before Keaton was Batman, before Marvel had their hit movies, and before DC messed up theirs completely, one hero stood above all others at the box office, Superman. However, Superman 4 The Quest for Peace was not one of the best in the series. It did give us the character Nuclear Man. Nuclear Man was the main protagonist in the film and was an anti-Superman. What Up CHU? Mel V here with your weekly Variant picks for Aug 8th. An extremely, extremely light week, which is good for the pockets . But as we all know the quiet weeks are the weeks where something sneaky great happens . DC Comics has done some pretty cool things with cover priced variants. They started out with lenticular covers a few years back. The repeated it a little while later. They launched their B cover program with big name artists, which they later made the trade dress smaller to make them more like virgin variants. What up CHUllectors!?! Shawn B. the One Year Later Investigator, back with another One Year Later round up, where we take a look at some of the comics that Anthony, Mel, and Poyo specced on one year ago. Their specs turn out to be quick flips, slow burns, straight up misses, straight up winners and on and on. Sometimes they spec with their hearts out of their passion for comics. Sometimes they spec based on data. And sometimes they spec based off the word on the street. Either way, all their specs appeal to a few or many collectors whether it is due to them having similar taste in writing or art, or just an opportunity for a collector to flip a book and make money to “support their habit”. If you have seen the preview of the cover for Cosmic Ghost Rider #3 (shown to the left), you have seen Cable, a mash-up of Groot and Rocket, a female Captain America, and a very Juggernaut suited duck on the cover. Of course the solicitation gives us a key to what could be up, simply, “COSMIC GHOST RIDER VS. THE FUTURE GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY FOR THE FATE OF THE UNIVERSE!”.
