Manifest Destiny #1 A Comic Heating Up

This was one of our picks of the week several months ago. Manifest Destiny #1 had several things going for it, it was an Image book, A Skybound book, and had a print run of just over 12,000 copies. throw in a variant by Ryan Ottley that may have been 1 50/50 split if retailers got their orders in on time (very small ordering window) and you have a book that had potential to spike. Diamond Comics Advanced Reorder List for 1/16/14

Each week retailers have to have their orders in for comics coming out weeks and months in advance. Sometimes they have enough to cover demand, and sometimes demand shifts, with fans and speculators clamoring for more copies of a book that may be big. This is where the Diamond Comics Advanced reorder list comes in, it is the books shops are going back to order more of before the comics come out. Needless to say, this is good insight into what may become hot. Each week we run the list. Here is this past weeks list: Continue reading “Diamond Comics Advanced Reorder List for 1/16/14”

Marvel Premiere 47 and 48 Bronze Age heating up

With the big news involving the Ant-Man movie casting coming out, that Scott Lang will be in the movie, prices quickly shot up on Lang’s first appearances as Ant-Man. The first appearance, Marvel Premiere #47 has been going for as high as $60 on eBay in vf+ to nm. Continue reading “Marvel Premiere 47 and 48 Bronze Age heating up”

Detective Comics #27 Selling Well on Secondary Market

I try to stay away from big event books, mostly due to the print runs. In fact, I am off of almost all Marvel and DC books now (partially due to quality vs. price but print runs play a big part.) So I was surprised to see that Detective Comics #27 from Dc’s New 52 line is selling above cover. Sure, the 1 in 100 is killing it at over $150 a copy now (retailers would have to kick out over $400 to get one copy.) Continue reading “Detective Comics #27 Selling Well on Secondary Market”

Comics Picks of the week for 1/15/14 part 2.

So I was sick this week, after my son was sick and it sidelined me from the site, and pretty much everything else. I did do a picks of the week column but only mentioned these next two books in it and wanted to spotlight them a little further because of the coolness factor. Both books are sold out. Top 200 Hottest Comic Titles and recent Back Issues during EARLY JANUARY 2014

Bi-weekly column and list compiled by comics historian Terry Hoknes of www.HoknesComics.com – hoknes@hotmail.com
This chart is styled like the old classic Wizard Magazine Top 10 Hottest Comic charts that were published every month in the 1990′s.
This list is updated every 2 weeks. This list is compiled from my non-stop research of the current market. I believe these were the most demand and growing in value books this month. This list focuses on all regular edition covers. (Variants are not listed otherwise they would likely dominate the entire list due to instant high prices and calculated small print runs). If you think I have missed any hot MODERN titles/issues please let me know. Here are my picks of what I believe are the hottest comics at this very moment from all sold out releases of MODERN comics online based on back issue sales ABOVE cover price. Justin Jordan's The Spread Convention Teaser

Man I love blogging about comics. I also love going to signings for comics. Recently, I did the Justin Jordan Dead Body Road signing and got a chance to hang around Justin for a while and was bugging him about Luther Strode, Dead Body Road, and the preview he did of Spread at NYCC. We covered the basis on how much I appreciate him and his work so far but we kept going back to Spread.
You could tell it was something he was jazzed about. I did tell him I run a speculator web-site and up until this point could not find copies of the convention teaser. He said to shoot him am email and he would send me copies. So I did. Happy to say that the copies came in today and they look even better than the online preview.
So getting to the point. I will be giving away copies in the coming weeks, closer to the announcement that Spread will be coming out from —–
Keep your eyes peeled for your chance to get a copy when I get more news on the announcement.

New Ms Marvel generating buzz

New Ms Marvel generating buzz

I have been sitting on this one for a little bit as I didn’t know what to make of it. The Muslim Ms. Marvel had a bit of a buzz when the final issue of Kelly Sue Deconnick’s series introduced her. Then the Marvel point one issue came out a week ago. This was her first full appearance. Then his article from Vibe came out.  Continue reading “New Ms Marvel generating buzz”

Comics Sales 2013 – December – Surprise high and low sales report

Market report by comics historian Terry Hoknes – hoknes@hotmail.com of www.HoknesComics.com
Every month Diamond Distributors reports the top 300 best selling highest ordered new comic books of the month
Retailers order new products 2 months in advance and must predict how well new comics will sell for them.
What happens every month is some titles are over-ordered and some retailers under-order.
As a stereotypical rule most retail shops will order extra heavy on all DC and Marvel titles knowing they might have potentially longer shelf life. All other smaller publishers most retailers will NOT take the same risk with financially.
Therefore the best selling comics of the year are predictably from the “big 2” publishers and the smallest print runs and books that sell out the quickest are from the smallest publishers. Continue reading “Comics Sales 2013 – December – Surprise high and low sales report”

DAKOIT SPECULATOR PICK: DAREDEVIL #170,171,172- First Meeting Daredevil & Kingpin!!

From the Dakoit at http://comicbookspeculation.blogspot.com/ make sure to check out his blog
It’s been several weeks since I’ve devoted an entire blog to a speculator pick, but I’ve finally managed a little time for this one! Today, we shall continue with the theme from the recently posted Powerman(/Ironfist) issues #48,50, 54. Those ‘first-meet’ issues have brought on quite an interest among many other speculators, and I hope these three will too.
With all the talk about the Daredevil series from Netflix/Marvel coming soon, I thought about the future prominence of his extensive rogues gallery. To me, the Daredevil villain repertoire ranks fifth among all superheroes, only behind Batman, Spiderman, Superman and the Flash. Among the villains who Daredevil has faced over the last 45 years or more (Bullseye, Owl, Lady Bullseye, Mr.Fear, Typhoid Mary, The Hand, etc.) no one has put more terror and primal anger into DD than Wilson Fisk-aka.Kingpin. Continue reading “DAKOIT SPECULATOR PICK: DAREDEVIL #170,171,172- First Meeting Daredevil & Kingpin!!”

Superman The Man of Steel #17: A Comic Heating Up

This one falls into the “Incredible hulk 180 vs. 181” argument. This means which one is the first true appearance, the cameo of full appearance. Needles to say, the first cameo of Doomsday is in Superman the Man of Steel 17 and the first full appearance is in #18. Regardless, both comics are shooting up in value, especially Man of Steel #17.
