DC Launches Foil Variants for October
DC Comics has done some pretty cool things with cover priced variants. They started out with lenticular covers a few years back. The repeated it a little while later. They launched their B cover program with big name artists, which they later made the trade dress smaller to make them more like virgin variants. This time, they are taking the cue from their extremely popular foil convention cover program for a series of foil regular priced covers. Continue reading “DC Launches Foil Variants for October”

One Year Later: Spec Review for 8/2/17
What up CHUllectors!?! Shawn B. the One Year Later Investigator, back with another One Year Later round up, where we take a look at some of the comics that Anthony, Mel, and Poyo specced on one year ago. Their specs turn out to be quick flips, slow burns, straight up misses, straight up winners and on and on. Sometimes they spec with their hearts out of their passion for comics. Sometimes they spec based on data. And sometimes they spec based off the word on the street. Either way, all their specs appeal to a few or many collectors whether it is due to them having similar taste in writing or art, or just an opportunity for a collector to flip a book and make money to “support their habit”. So, this is our weekly chance to look back at how some of our buys from a year ago are doing today. Continue reading “One Year Later: Spec Review for 8/2/17”

Likes and Don’t Likes for the Week of August 1st, 2018

San Diego Comic Con 2018 Wrap Up
San Diego Comic Con, the Nerd Superbowl, started on July 18th. This was definitely a transition year for SDCC. Almost everything is a lottery now. On one hand, it’s an even playing field. On another hand, those who are more vigilant and willing to work harder don’t get an advantage. Depends on your definition of fairness. Attendees could sign up in what’s called an “Exclusives Portal” for lotteries to all major signings and exclusive booths. I entered for almost everything in every time slot. I won nothing. Squat. So we can say I wasn’t a big fan this year. My main request of SDCC is to only allow each winning attendee to win only once, since some people won multiples while some won nothing.
