One Year Later: Spec Review for 6/21/17

What up CHUllectors!?! Shawn B. the One Year Later Investigator, back with another One Year Later round up, where we take a look at some of the comics that Anthony, Mel, and Poyo specced on one year ago. Their specs turn out to be quick flips, slow burns, straight up misses, straight up winners and on and on. Sometimes they spec with their hearts out of their passion for comics. Sometimes they spec based on data. And sometimes they spec based off the word on the street. Either way, all their specs appeal to a few or many collectors whether it is due to them having similar taste in writing or art, or just an opportunity for a collector to flip a book and make money to “support their habit”. So, this is our weekly chance to look back at how some of our buys from a year ago are doing today. Continue reading “One Year Later: Spec Review for 6/21/17”

Phoenix Comic Fest 2018 Cosplay Gallery

Cosplayers went all out as usual.  They are always good but this year was on another level. I always try to catch as many of the endless Harley variants as I can. One of my favs is Amber Brite (www.amberbrite.com), a fantastic cosplayer and prop maker.  I regularly see her at conventions. She is super nice, wears an amazing new outfit every day, and should probably be on a Hollywood set with her prop and prosthetic making skills. Met the very charming Ashm0nster (twitch.tv/ashm0nster) who knocked it out of the park with her Junko E cosplay, and I discovered her awesome Twitch channel. Kudos to Cos A Commotion for an incredible GOTG set at their booth, plus taking donations and giving proceeds to Pets for Vets.

Phoenix Comic Fest 2018 Wrap Up

Phoenix Comic Fest (formerly Phoenix Comicon) took place over the Memorial Day weekend.  2017 was a rough year for the event: staffing issues, near shooting incident, and taking on SDCC over the use of ‘comic con’ name. That’s all in the past now and they have revamped the con for 2018 in many ways. Now wristbands are mailed in advance, far more security checkpoints/entrances, and a slew of minor improvements throughout the convention center. Continue reading “Phoenix Comic Fest 2018 Wrap Up”

Ace Comic Con 2018 Cosplay Gallery

Cosplayers are usually the most charming part of attending a comic con.  Wasn’t sure what to expect at a new show, new location, new time of year.  As always, cosplayers were out in force, especially on Saturday when there was a cosplay contest on the big celebrity stage to showcase their efforts.  I always love seeing Lady Death cosplay, and shout out to Alina Masquerade (@alinamasquerade) for an incredible Jessica Rabbit cosplay and being one of the cosplay judges.  Additional shout out to Keely Madison (@itskeelymadison) for her killer Joker cosplay.  Check out the pics! Ace Comic Con 2018 Wrap Up

Louie M. covers West Coast conventions for www.comicsheatingup.net
What up CHU!! Ace Comic Con took place in Glendale, AZ on January 13-15.  It’s important to set the bar right when judging ACC, this is their first year of existence and their second show ever. Given that, the guest list is bonkers for a new con: Chris Evans, Tom Holland, Sebastian Stan, Jon Bernthal, Hayley Atwell, Hulk Hogan, and many more from the cast of Captain America and Spider-man. Game On Expo 2017 Wrap Up

Louie M. cover conventions for comicsheatingup.net.
Hi CHU Family!  Growing up, when I didn’t have a comic book in my hand, I had a video game controller. Today the convention scene has grown to accommodate large conventions for all types of fandoms and subcultures, and gaming is a perfect fit.  Game On Expo took place in Phoenix, AZ on August 11-13th with three full days of programming. Louie M's SDCC 2017 Wrap up

Yo CHU! Last week was SDCC, the Pop Culture Superbowl! Nearly every comics publisher under one roof. An epic list of artistic talent. Not to mention a slew of celebs and major movie studios. Until I figure out how to clone myself, here is merely one person’s perspective of the 200K in Downtown San Diego last week:

Top 100 Hottest Comic Titles during LATE NOVEMBER 2014

Bi-weekly column and list compiled by comics historian Terry Hoknes of www.HoknesComics.com – hoknes@hotmail.com
This chart is styled like the old classic Wizard Magazine Top 10 Hottest Comic charts that were published every month in the 1990′s.
unnamed (7)
This list is updated every 2 weeks. This list is compiled from my non-stop research of the current market. I believe these were the most demand and growing in value books this month. This list focuses on all regular edition covers. (Variants are not listed otherwise they would likely dominate the entire list due to instant high prices and calculated small print runs). If you think I have missed any hot MODERN titles/issues please let me know. Here are my picks of what I believe are the hottest comics at this very moment from all sold out releases of MODERN comics online based on back issue sales ABOVE cover price.
Note these are all the “hot” recent sold comics that your comic shops will not have still on the shelf for cover price. However many speculators will hunt their local comic shops looking for that “hot” book that is still on the shelf – sometimes you find them!
This market report is based on very current constant online sales. Number of sales online above cover and the amount above cover price are the criteria I use for ranking books highest on the list.
(If you spot an error or a forgotten book/price please let me know) Continue reading “Top 100 Hottest Comic Titles during LATE NOVEMBER 2014”

Agent Poyo's Walking Dead contest winner

Thanks to everyone who played along. I loved reading them all. I have had the “where would I bug out to” conversation at work a million times. Glad to share my nerdiness with everyone else. But, let’s move on to the reason we are here, to give away some comics. As said before this contest was for a Walking Dead 100 2nd print and the Agent Poyo Sketch cover. More Krypton Spec

This is the kind of speculation I like. Early. Pre-mature speculation. Get in early and cheap so if it hits you are poised to capitalize. It was announced the other day that Sy Fy would be doing a tv show Krypton featuring Superman’s grandfather. But which one. Here is some low down on the books that could be of interest. Thanks to Topher S. and Unlikely for the tips. Continue reading “More Krypton Spec”
