One Year Later: Spec Review for 8/2/17

What up CHUllectors!?! Shawn B. the One Year Later Investigator, back with another One Year Later round up, where we take a look at some of the comics that Anthony, Mel, and Poyo specced on one year ago. Their specs turn out to be quick flips, slow burns, straight up misses, straight up winners and on and on. Sometimes they spec with their hearts out of their passion for comics. Sometimes they spec based on data. And sometimes they spec based off the word on the street. Either way, all their specs appeal to a few or many collectors whether it is due to them having similar taste in writing or art, or just an opportunity for a collector to flip a book and make money to “support their habit”. So, this is our weekly chance to look back at how some of our buys from a year ago are doing today. Continue reading “One Year Later: Spec Review for 8/2/17”

Quick Spoilers: Cosmic Ghost Rider #2 Just What is Howard the Duck Doing on the Cover of #3

If you have seen the preview of the cover for Cosmic Ghost Rider #3 (shown to the left), you have seen Cable, a mash-up of Groot and Rocket, a female Captain America, and a very Juggernaut suited duck on the cover. Of course the solicitation gives us a key to what could be up, simply, “COSMIC GHOST RIDER VS. THE FUTURE GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY FOR THE FATE OF THE UNIVERSE!”. However, Cosmic Ghost Rider #2 gives us a sneak peek of things to come. Continue reading “Quick Spoilers: Cosmic Ghost Rider #2 Just What is Howard the Duck Doing on the Cover of #3”

Likes and Don’t Likes for the Week of August 1st, 2018

I survived the road to Hana (yes, it’s apparently a thing) and didn’t get eaten by any sharks (but I did see lots of turtles on my snorkeling adventure). So there’s that in something to like this week. It was hard to leave but all good things must come to an end.

San Diego Comic Con 2018 Cosplay Gallery

Cosplayers are one of the best parts of attending any comic convention. They were not around conventions when I was a kid, and it’s a blessing to have them today.  They bring our favorite characters to life.  Check out the Cosplay that was on display in San Diego! San Diego Comic Con 2018 Wrap Up

San Diego Comic Con, the Nerd Superbowl, started on July 18th.  This was definitely a transition year for SDCC. Almost everything is a lottery now.  On one hand, it’s an even playing field. On another hand, those who are more vigilant and willing to work harder don’t get an advantage.  Depends on your definition of fairness. Attendees could sign up in what’s called an “Exclusives Portal” for lotteries to all major signings and exclusive booths.  I entered for almost everything in every time slot. I won nothing. Squat. So we can say I wasn’t a big fan this year. My main request of SDCC is to only allow each winning attendee to win only once, since some people won multiples while some won nothing. Infinity Wars Prime #1 is in stores tomorrow, and is the most insanely cool first issue of an event book I have ever seen.
